Reggie Bush plans to continue his fight against the NCAA after reclaiming the Heisman Trophy

Published

LOS ANGELES (AP) Reggie Bush is overjoyed to win the Heisman Trophy once more.

Now he also wants to regain his popularity.

The former Southern California quarterback says the Heisman return is the biggest step yet in his fight with the NCAA to restore his good name and records from an incredible college football profession. Bush bluntly stated that he “never cheated” during his three seasons at USC.

“I never had any doubt that this would happen,” Bush said. “Because I know the truth is on my side.”

Bush and his family celebrated his restoration of Heisman honors Thursday during a news conference atop the venerable Coliseum, where Bush played for the Trojans before an 11-year NFL profession. Bush and his three children held the trophy together as his wife, mother and plenty of supporters cheered.

Bush praised the Heisman Trust for reinstating him, but the former linebacker and his lawyers made clear their fight against the NCAA was not over. Bush has indicated he has no plans to drop a defamation lawsuit filed last 12 months against the NCAA over the governing body’s characterization of the circumstances that led to Bush’s 2021 troubles.

“It pretty much meant I was considered a fraud,” Bush said. “The trophy… to be taken away from me (was painful), but being labeled a cheater was much worse because I never cheated and there is no proof that I cheated.”

Bush won the Heisman Award in 2005 but gave it up in 2010 after massive sanctions were imposed on USC, partly related to Bush’s dealings with two aspiring sports marketers. The Heisman Trust restored the honor and returned the trophy to Bush in Jacksonville, Florida, on Wednesday, citing fundamental changes in the structure of faculty athletics over the past 14 years.

The NCAA also voided 14 of the Trojans’ victories under its sanctions and erased lots of Bush’s accomplishments from the record books. The decision continues to infuriate Bush, who clearly hopes that his lawsuit and public pressure will force the governing body to change its position.

“This is a clear call for the NCAA to do the right thing and be on the right side of history,” attorney Ben Crump said.

Bush, whose NCAA-mandated separation from USC resulted in 2020, hopes to see his retired No. 5 on the peristyle of the Coliseum this fall. He also hopes to lead coach Lincoln Riley’s team out of the Coliseum tunnel by accepting an honor bestowed upon the Trojans’ top former team.

But Bush says he won’t be satisfied until his name can also be cleared.

“You can’t achieve this goal or a national championship by cheating,” Bush said. “I promise you that.”

USA women’s polo chooses Flavor Flav as propagandist for the Paris Olympics

Published

Maggie Steffens asked for more support for the U.S. women’s water polo team, and the captain received one particularly surprising response.

From a watch-wearing rap icon.

Posted by Steffens’ post on Instagram, Flavor Flav helped the U.S. team win an unprecedented fourth consecutive gold medal at the Paris Summer Olympics. It is finalizing a deal that can make it a sponsor of water polo in the US and an official propagandist for a program geared toward increasing the highlight.

Flav, 65, the founder and propagator of Public Enemy propaganda, immediately threw himself into his recent duties, highlighting several of the team’s best players in social media. She also plans to observe the women’s team play in Paris.

“When I go out and watch the water polo team… ‘USA!’ USA!’ Yo, I’m gonna be the biggest hype they’ve ever experienced in their lives,” he he said AP on Friday. “I’m going to be larger than any cheerleader they’ve ever had of their life. I’ll root for this team and I’ll root for this team to win the gold medal.

The victory is the typical result for the U.S. women’s team since the 2012 Olympics. However, it has not attracted as much attention or support as similarly dominant American programs, largely because water polo stays a distinct segment sport in most of the world.

This – combined with a little bit of nostalgia – prompted 30-year-old Steffens, the last member of the 2012 band, to post on Instagram. Expressing her gratitude for the opportunity to play and her love for the sport, she also encouraged anyone reading the post to get to know her team and highlighted the ongoing financial struggles of most Olympians.

“We got a lot of comments like, ‘Oh, that’s great what you did.’ It’s a shame you’re not a soccer or basketball player because your team would get a lot more exposure and a lot more support,” Steffens said Friday from Paris, where the team is on a training trip ahead of the Olympics.

“Instead, we are still in the same place we were 12 years ago, which is not my goal. I always wanted to push the sport forward.”

In front of us is Flav, who, along with the group Public Enemy, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2013. Flav’s manager brought this post to his attention and decided he desired to help.

“There’s one thing about me: I know what it’s like to want to make your dream come true,” said Flav, who is thought for wearing a big clock on a sequence around his neck. “I know what it’s like to want to achieve a goal, and I’m the type of person that if I see you trying, I’ll do everything I can to help you.”

Steffens said it was “very surreal” when Flav – whose legal name is William Jonathan Drayton Jr. – he contacted her. When asked what she knew about Flav and the Public Enemy before the merger, Steffens immediately mimicked the frequent “Flavor Flav!” declaration.

Steffens is certainly one of the oldest players on the U.S. team, but she said 24-year-old Ryann Neushul has Public Enemy in her top five players on Spotify. Several of the team’s coaches and Steffens’ family were also enthusiastic about the collaboration.

“My whole family was like, ‘Is this true?’ Flav is now part of the water polo world?” Steffens said. “I thought, ‘I don’t know what’s going on, but I want to wear a watch now and that’s how I feel.'”

Steffens and the American team even have one other major supporter in Taylor Swift. On Friday evening, at La Défense Arena – the venue of the women’s water polo final that took place on August 10, they took part in a concert by a musician from the Eras Tour.

Women’s national team manager Ally Beck contacted Swift’s camp and surprised the team with tickets. Flav said he also contacted Swift’s team, but the tickets had already been approved.

Flav, who’s working on one other tour with Public Enemy that might start later this yr, then held up a T-shirt along with his picture and the words “KING SWIFTIE.”

“I’m proud to support Taylor. … Flavor Flav is the Swiftie, the king of all Swifties,” he said.

This is one other bond Flav shares along with his recent favorite band.

Actress Kate Beckinsale threatens to snatch the wig of Shaquille O

British actress Kate Beckinsale is clearly not having fun with her friend Shaquille O’Neal.

The ‘Much Ado About Nothing’ star has switched from her traditional prim and proper demeanor typical of a former Oxford student to seemingly gangster-like behavior after reading the previous Laker’s response to his ex-wife, Shaunie (O’Neal) Henderson is unsure whether she ever really loved him.

Shaunie releases her debut memoir, “Undefeated: Changing the Rules and Winning on Your Own Terms.” In an excerpt, she bluntly wrote, “Looking back, I don’t know if I was ever truly in love with this man, but I fell in love with the idea of being married to the man I had a family with.”

The “Basketball Wives” creator and producer added: “I fell in love with the idea of building a life together. I really enjoyed spending time with him. The (NBA) road trips allowed me to spend some time with my husband and experience life in the NBA.”

In response to the note, Shaq said he completely understands where his ex-wife of seven years is coming from post on his Instagram. It was written in all caps: “I see… I wouldn’t fall in love with myself either. I wish you all the best… (heart emoji) all the love, Shaq.”

The 15-time All-Star then wrote within the caption, “Trust me, I understand.”

Although he claims to have understood, not all of his friends did. Beckinsale didn’t seem to be taking it easy on her comments about Shaq.

“Hey now,” the “Underworld” star wrote in her comments section. “We all have a sociopath ex. I’ve got you – want me to drive over and grab a wig or two? I’ll… love you, man.

Kate Beckinsale apparently threatens Shaq’s ex-wife in a post on his Instagram page. @Shaq/Instagram

Others in Shaq’s comments were shocked or tickled by Beckinsale’s unexpected aggression.

“Gangsta Kate!” wrote one commentator. “Who knew you, ag,” said one other.

A 3rd comment read: “Oh OK. Kate is with s–ts.

One of the sports analyst’s 34.6 million followers also jokingly chimed in together with his request: “Now Kate, I even have an ex you may hook up with now! Are we leaving at dawn or not?

Not everyone praised Kate’s clever comment, with some suggesting that wig snatching had a racial connotation. Others simply wondered what information she will need to have told Shauna.

“I’m not sure it’s fair to call his ex-wife a sociopath when Shaq admitted he made a lot of mistakes in their marriage,” one person wrote, which was supported by one other, equally aggressive comment. “Are you calling Shaunie a sociopath without knowing the small print of their marriage and never offering to snatch the wigs? Lady, sit down before you make your double zero again.

It is publicly unknown why Beckinsale was so compelled to defend Shaq. There are not any photos of the 2 together, nor are there any rumors about them being intimate or inappropriate. There was no dispute between her and Shaq’s ex either.

Many consider she was outraged by Shaunie’s statement.

“Assuming he’s wearing a wig, that seems racist of you,” someone said in support of her comment, adding, “He’s so sorry.”

Shaq and Shaunie were married from 2002 to 2009. From this union that they had 4 children: Shareef, 23; Amira, 21; Shaqir, 20; and Me’arah (18 years old). The original “Dream Team” contestant has one other daughter, Taahirah, 27, from her previous relationship with businesswoman Arnetta Yardbourgh. He played the fiery father of Shaunie’s eldest son, his stepson Myles, 26. Although he was born during Shauna’s previous relationship, Shaq gave his last name during their marriage.
