Lack of exercise has been proven to have a detrimental effect on women’s mental health.

The ASICS Move Her Mind study, which involved 26 focus groups and a survey of just about 25,000 participants worldwide, found a clear correlation between women’s mental health and activity levels. People Magazine reported.

Notably, women who exercised often reported significant improvements of their mental well-being, feeling 50% more energetic, 48% more confident and 52% happier than after they weren’t lively.

Women also reported feeling 67% more anxious and 80% more frustrated after they didn’t exercise often, indicating that the workouts helped them cope with negative emotions more effectively.

However, greater than half of the ladies surveyed said they didn’t have enough time to exercise.

“Regardless of activity level, women face barriers that prevent them from being as active as they would like to be,” said lead researcher Dr. Dee Dlugonski.

Featured Stories

The most typical barriers reported by women regarding exercise were insufficient time (74%) and too many other responsibilities (76%).

Having children also had a significant impact on a woman’s ability to exercise often; over 60% of ladies said that motherhood was the most important reason they stopped going to the gym often, with their activity levels declining as they spent years giving birth and raising children.

However, moms didn’t all the time resume physical activity as their children grew older; over 50% of ladies said their exercise levels decreased as they aged, with some even stopping altogether. The two most important reasons for stopping are work and lack of time.

“Many women have reported that they experience gender-based expectations that impact the time they have off to exercise or play sports,” Długoński said in People magazine. “Caregiving roles, such as caring for children, elders, and performing other household duties, were particularly significant barriers reported by women in the quantitative and qualitative data.”

People of color across the United States affected by air pollution

state of air, pollution, clean air,

According to a 2024 report by the American Lung Association, thousands and thousands of people across the country are exposed to unhealthy air quality, which disproportionately affects communities of color.

Despite a long time of efforts to scale back air pollution, a staggering 131.2 million Americans, or 39% of the total population, live in unhealthy areas ozone or particulate matter levels. Although people of color make up 41.6% of the nation’s population, they make up a surprising 52% of residents in counties that received a minimum of one failing rating for air quality. In counties with the most severe air pollution, where all three air quality measures failed, it’s shocking that 63% of the nearly 44 million residents are people of color, in comparison with 37% of white people.

The State of the Air notes the increase in the number of people whose health is in danger, citing contributing aspects including extreme heat, drought and wildfires, which together are causing a gentle increase in deadly particulate matter that causes heavy pollution in the western regions of the United States. While the organization’s report initially highlighted the Clean Air Act’s successes in mitigating emissions from transportation, power plants and manufacturing sectors, recent findings have highlighted growing evidence that climate change poses enormous challenges to protecting human health.

BLACK ENTERPRISES We previously reported that, resulting from the disproportionate sales of beauty products to Black women, the deployment of fossil fuel plants across the United States is destroying their health and the environment. Researchers found that black women were more prone to live near power plants, and since emissions lower air quality, they were more prone to suffer from respiratory problems corresponding to asthma and bronchitis.

Based on year-round levels of ozone and particulate matter over an extended period of time, the State of the Air report identified several cities in California as amongst the most polluted locations.

The American Lung Association urges individuals to take proactive steps to guard themselves and their families from the dangers of air pollution by monitoring every day air quality forecasts, minimizing personal contributions to air pollution, using tax incentives to scale back emissions from homes and vehicles, and supporting , alongside local policymakers and civic organizations for cleaner air initiatives.

Anyone who watched the show within the Nineties probably remembers its star, Jaleel White. The 47-year-old has long since abandoned her Steve Urkel/Stefan Urquelle persona from the Nineties and has recently gained a brand new title – husband. The actor married Nicoletta Ruhl on May 4 on the Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles. His recent wife heads business development at sports technology and gaming company StatusPro.

“It was important that all the people who impact our daily lives were present and that each of them had a good time and felt like they were part of something intimate and meaningful,” Ruhl told PEOPLE of their wedding day. Their wedding was attended by 175 guests.

The newlyweds first met throughout the pandemic on the UCLA track, where they each trained. They kicked off their relationship on Instagram during New Year’s Eve 2022. Ruhl posted photos of individuals cuddling while celebrating the New Year. They made their red carpet debut as a pair in 2022 on the premiere of White’s Netflix film. Although this is his first marriage, he has a 14-year-old daughter named Samaya. She also appeared on the red carpet on the film’s 2022 premiere.

Recalling their wedding day, the actor told the publication, “I felt like a prince.”

To ensure their big day left a long-lasting impression on guests, the couple added details like five-star food and three different DJs with sets at different times of the day.

During an interview with PEOPLE, the couple reflected on what marriage means to them. White stated that this implies: “Each of us has made a commitment to love each other and to help each other achieve the best possible results in everything we set our minds to, both personally and professionally.”

Ruhl confirmed this, adding that they’ve good intentions and are letting things unfold naturally.

“We don’t rush anything and we always have sincere intentions towards each other,” she added. “We both fully believe that if you force something, it won’t bring the best result, and that’s why we’ve seen so many blessings in our lives together so far.”
