According to Houston ChronicleThe Grammy Award winner – chosen because her “music and performances have shined a light on women’s empowerment, mental health and social justice” – received the Catalyst for Change Award on Tuesday at Planned Parenthood’s annual Spring Into Action Gala in New York York.

She addressed how society has long had a negative stigma surrounding mental health, expressing her commitment to normalizing the conversation and ensuring people have the suitable resources to get the assistance they need.

“I love the way exercise brings mental clarity and physical energy, so I trust the process and practice it,” Megan explained, as reported by the Grio. “There will always be difficult days, but I remind myself that exercise is an investment in my long-term physical and mental health.”

According to the Chronicle, in 2022, Megan supported Planned Parenthood by releasing a T-shirt with the words “Ladies Love Yourself” in response to the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade.

“The court has failed us all, but we will not budge,” Megan wrote in an Instagram post. “I will continue to fight because everyone deserves access to the care they need.”

According to People MagazineSouthern Methodist University will present the 97-year-old “Grandma of Juneteenth” with an honorary Doctor of Philosophy degree at a commencement ceremony on May 11.
