GTA VI publisher cancels $140 million in new projects and lays off hundreds

“The Company estimates that it will incur total charges of approximately $160 million to $200 million in connection with the Plan,” Take-Two wrote in its filing. “The company expects aggregate charges of $40 million to $60 million to result in future money outlays. The total charge is roughly $120 million to $140 million related to title cancellation, roughly $25 million to $35 million related to severance and employee-related costs, and roughly $15 million to $25 million related to the reduction of office space.
These surprise cuts come lower than a month after Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick he said the corporate had “no current plans” to put off additional employees in reference to the “cost reduction” program mentioned in a March call with investors. The company expects an enormous increase in sales after the launch. It is currently scheduled to reach in 2025.
Take-Two recently announced its plan to accumulate Gearbox Entertainment, the developer of the shooter series published by its 2K label, for $460 million by the top of June. In addition to , Take-Two and its subsidiaries even have new games and games in development, while Ken Levine’s Ghost Story Games is working on a game that appears prefer it’s in space.
Take-Two reported net bookings of $1.2 billion last quarter, up 20 percent from a 12 months earlier. Zelnick took home greater than $40 million in total compensation as head of the corporate last 12 months, thanks in part bonuses tied to getting players to spend more cash on microtransactions.

Todd Howard on crossplay and progress in Fallout 76
, Bethesda’s MMORPG set in the universe, might be more popular today than ever because of a brand new Amazon TV series. So it is smart that Bethesda executive producer Todd Howard was asked about this in a recent interviewAND cross play. And while the potential for PC and console players mixing is out of the query, Howard at the very least seemed more positive about cross-progression.
Since the TV show premiered earlier this month all games have turn into more popular. This also applies to the black sheep in the family. This online-only spin-off is having fun with more players than ever across all platforms. And as 1000’s of latest players enter the post-apocalyptic open-world MMORPG, they’ll expect – like most games in 2024 – that would support crossplay or at the very least cross progression. However, when you’re playing on Xbox, you may’t play with PC or PlayStation players, and all of your progress can also be tied to that platform. And while cross play seems unlikely, Todd Howard seems more open to a future where cross play counts.
In the April 29 episode Howard talked in regards to the franchise and the long run of cross play in
“We’re constantly thinking about it, but () we didn’t design this way from the beginning. So obviously we’re going into silos of servers and databases,” Howard said.
When asked about crossplay or cross-progression, he presented Bethesda’s opinion on the features it has will become standard in 2024.
“Here’s what I would say: the more important we are to cross-progression rather than cross-platform play – and we separate them – then obviously we would like to have all of that. It’s something we’re looking at, but I will say it’s quite a – in the way it was designed from the beginning – technical lift. We’re not saying we’re not doing anything, but we’re looking at it and seeing what impact it will have on people.
He continued: “I think moving forward in the world that we want to be in, I think that’s very important and something that you know that in our future games we’re going to be very, very careful to make sure – especially progress – when you start the game , no matter what screen you’re on, you can just continue with your character and what you were doing.”
Funnily enough, Howard suggested that if something about their games upsets employees – akin to the shortage of cross-platform play – it becomes a better priority for them and they need to fix it.
“When we can’t pick it up and (make progress), it moves it up the stack internally.”
So I suppose we’d like some people in Bethesda to be upset in regards to the lack of cross saves!

Fallout 76’s Redemption Arc, a great new Zelda-style game, and more game reviews this week
The following incorporates spoilers for the game and its expansions.
Rarely has a game left me so confused . While I loved spending most of my time with it, with its pulsating motion, heartfelt performances, lush visuals, and impeccable soundtrack, it undoubtedly faded away. he abandoned probably the most controversial and the resulting storyline – specializing in: a mismanaged slave revolt– and leaves out a few of the most intriguing ones, creating a confusing and disappointing story. Just like I adore it Clive, Joshua, Jill, Cid and many other forged members, lots of whom also feel cheated after fulfilling their role within the story, reduced to nothing more than a means to an end. it is also bleak, which at first glance is not significantly different from the remaining of the series, but turns this misery into its entire identity, leaving little room for some other emotional expression within the game. —Moises Taveras read more
