Jennifer Hudson suggests Common is a ‘different’ person, weeks after breakup rumors

Nearly a month after fans began to suspect that Jennifer Hudson and Common had split, the talk show host confirmed that the couple is still together and apparently getting along well.

Ahead of the third season premiere of her original reality show, Hudson sat down with “Extra” reporter Terri Seymour for a girly chat about her plans for the show and opened up about her relationship with the “Used to Love Her” rapper.

During the conversation, Seymour asked Hudson about collaborating together with her husband of just about two years on a Christmas song for Hudson’s upcoming album.

Turning to the camera, Hudson addressed him by his middle name, Rashid. She said: “Phew! Okay Rashid and Common are two different people.”

Explaining further, she said, “Rashid is so lovely and sweet, but when you talk to the artist Common…”

Seymore chimed in and asked, “Is that something else?” Hudson continued, “Oh my God. It’s like, oooh, chile, where’s Rashid?” But I mean, he’s a musical genius. I call him the King of Words.”

Despite the headache Common appears to be causing Hudson together with his holiday song, the “Dreamgirls” star must feel it was value it. “It’s been so much fun venturing into the world of music together,” she said.

Hudson’s fans were thrilled to see her beam when talking about Common. One person said, “I love how she blushes when she talks about her man Common,” while one other wrote, “Congrats on Season 3! Two Chicago legends, JHud and Common, a match made in heaven!”

Romance rumors concerning the musical duo began circulating in 2022 once they were spotted getting closer after working together on the film “Breathe.” For nearly two years, the Chicago natives tried to avoid questions on their relationship status despite being spotted together multiple times.

Fans warned the 2 concerning the mistakes that artists who’ve never been married don’t make. Common has never proposed to any of his exes, Serena Williams, Erykah Badu, Taraji P. Hensonor Angela Rye.

Hudson, meanwhile, was in an eight-year relationship together with her ex-fiancé, the daddy of her teenage son, David Daniel Otunga Jr.

However, in 2024, Hudson and Common decided to place an end to all of the rumors and at last revealed on Hudson’s show that they were actually a couple.

Playing coy — without saying Hudson’s name — Common told her, “I’m in a relationship with one of the most beautiful people I’ve ever met in my life. She’s smart, she loves God, she’s got a real down-to-earth quality to her. She’s talented.”

As he continued speaking, it became clear to Hudson’s listeners that Common was talking about her, as he mentioned that the person had an “EGOT” and “her own talk show.”

Following Common’s lead, Hudson isn’t naming any names, but she did confirm that she’s taken. She said, “I’m dating this brother and I’m very happy.”

Since the 2 have kept their relationship a secret, fans were a little concerned that they were now not seeing one another. Fears of a potential breakup grew after Common attended the Democratic National Convention without Hudson. This was alarming to fans because the event was held in town they’re each from and infrequently visit.

But what made it less likely that the 2 had split was Hudson’s post 13 days before the event: She posted a photo of Common, singer Paris PJ Jones, musician Keyon Harrold and herself posing together within the studio after apparently working on a song.

As for Hudson’s first holiday album, “The Gift of Love,” it’ll arrive well before Christmas, on October 18. The project is reportedly the primary latest song she’s released in 10 years, and her favorite from “Just Wright” is on the eleventh track.

“‘Almost Christmas’ is what Common called the song and created it for my Christmas album,” she told Seymour.
