BLK encourages black men to smile in their online dating profile photos
October 4 is World Smile Day, and the people at BLK want Black men to smile with the #BLKMenSmile campaign.
BŁK, A dating app, wants to encourage Black men to smile and spread Black joy. They want black men to smile more because a brand new study shows that over 70% of black men don’t smile on their dating app profiles. It is suspected that this may occasionally be due to social standards, observations With masculinity, AND cultural pressure.
“The #BLKMenSmile campaign aims to challenge the norms that keep Black men from expressing joy. We want to show that a smile is not just an expression of positivity – it is a powerful expression of self-love, self-confidence and authenticity,” said Jonathan Kirkland, BLK’s director of brand name and marketing, in a written statement.
BLK cooperated with Express yourself, black man for this campaign as the corporate commits to showcasing positive expression of Black men, mental health and cultural empowerment.
#BLKMenSmile highlights the grins of all kinds of black men, and the video shows over 50 of them showing their smiles to the world. To make black men smile more, the video showed everyone smiling. Let’s hope that when Black men create their profiles on dating apps, they’ll showcase their smiles so the world will see that they aren’t the stereotypical, unsmiling, disaffected Black men which might be perceived in society.
The video presents inspirational quotes that black men can and will follow to make black men feel higher about showing their smile.
“Every Black Man Deserves a Smile,” “Smile, Black Man,” “Your Joy is Your Strength,” and “A Smile is a Revolution.”
While Black men will use the BLK app, they’ll find a way to use a limited-edition digital sticker that was created exclusively for Black men using the app. The sticker shows a smiling black man with the words “Black Boy Joy” written on his teeth.
