Wolves confidently take (*27*) Shannon at No. 27 after the Illinois star was found not guilty in rape case
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) The Minnesota Timberwolves have dug even deeper into (*27*) Shannon Jr. before the NBA draft.
They found multiple sources attesting to his character, bolstering their confidence in the dynamic player whose final season at Illinois was overshadowed by a rape charge of which he was recently acquitted.
“The reputation off the court is great. Talk to the coaches at Texas Tech. Talk to coaches in Illinois. They don’t say good things. They say amazing things,” Tim Connelly, Timberwolves president of basketball operations, said Wednesday night after taking Shannon in the first round with the twenty seventh overall pick. “Obviously he was on the wrong end of a really unfortunate situation, and his ability to get through that and win the basketball for a great coach like Brad Underwood, we just think he brings toughness.”
Shannon was found not guilty two weeks ago after a Douglas County, Kansas, jury spent lower than two hours reaching a verdict. He was accused of sexual assault last September while visiting Kansas for a football game between the Illini and Jayhawks.
Connelly said the Timberwolves have “done a ton” of labor on Shannon, taking an interest in his experience, grit and skill to attain from anywhere on the court.

“Often the minute you’re charged, you’re presumed guilty. Fortunately, he went through the legal process. He chose to go to trial because he knew he didn’t do anything wrong,” Connelly said. “It’s just unfortunate that he had to go through that. I think it’s a testament to who he is as a kid and his ability to handle really tough times.”
The 6-foot-10 Shannon, who turns 24 next month, can play in either forward position. He began his college profession at Texas Tech before transferring to Illinois, leading the Illini to the Elite Eight in the NCAA Tournament before losing to eventual national champion Connecticut. Shannon was named first-team All-Big Ten and third-team All-American by the Associated Press and was named Big Ten tournament MVP for his March performance at the Target Center in Minneapolis, where he’ll now play his home games as knowledgeable.
“I think he’s a three-position defender. I think he’s an incredibly competitive guy. It has size. Another downhill rider who will play with pace,” Connelly said.
The Timberwolves were excited to accumulate Shannon to enrich Kentucky guard Rob Dillingham, who they traded for the No. 8 overall pick in a trade with San Antonio. The Western Conference runner-up couldn’t have had a more productive draft night, on condition that they’re unable to bolster their roster through trades or free agency on account of limited salary cap space and a desire to retain their core.
“You don’t take into account how these two guys are going to play together, but our challenge was to try to play a little bit faster on our second unit,” Connelly said, “and I think we have two of the fastest, most athletic and aggressive guys in the draft.”

Jordan Chiles makes his swimsuit debut in Sports Illustrated
New faces join the Sports Illustrated swimsuit lineup. This week, the magazine announced that Olympic gymnast Jordan Chiles might be one among many star athletes featured in the SI Swimsuit 2025 issue.

They challenge stereotypes and advocate for equality, inspiring young girls to imagine themselves as both athletes and leaders.”
Chiles will perform alongside her gymnastics teammate Suni Lee, fellow Olympian Gabby Thomas and more. Informer-peek pictures Ben Horton’s photos show Chiles striking a mid-air pose in a teal and blue one-piece swimsuit, her hair blowing in the wind.
The 23-year-old gymnast stepped into the highlight on the 2024 Paris Olympics as a part of the victorious U.S. women’s gymnastics team that secured the gold medal. In addition to helping Team USA win the gold medal, Chiles made the primary all-Black Olympic gymnastics podium by winning the bronze title, where she stood alongside Rebecca Antrade and Simone Biles, who won gold and silver medals in the ladies’s floor exercise final.
Before this historic moment, Chiles’ coach Cecile Landi made an appeal on the court, which led to her bronze medal. However, shortly thereafter, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) overturned her coach’s initial appeal on the grounds that she was 4 seconds late beyond the one-minute time-frame in which scoring questions may very well be asked. The title has since been transferred to Romanian gymnast Ana Barbosu, and Chiles and her lawyers have appealed the CAS ruling.

“Everything happened in a timely manner,” she added, explaining how she and her team had proof that the investigation was conducted in a timely manner. “I can only control what my truth is and I know we were right.”
Although the gymnast left Paris with a team gold medal, she explained that the bronze medal on floor held special significance.
“It was like the cherry on top,” she explained. “After that medal on the floor, I thought: ‘wow’, I didn’t expect to get to the final on the floor… Besides, it was an all-Black podium. This is how history was made. I was very proud to be a part of it… it was something I will always remember.”
While she and her legal team await the consequence of the appeal, Chiles just isn’t letting the situation dim her light. From walking through New York Fashion Week to touring with teammate Simone Biles, the Olympian is making the controversial decision a part of her journey.
“I have created history and I will always create it,” he previously told theGrio day by day.

Others suggested that Howard’s claim was false, saying they were informed of the pregnancy after it was reported that Anthony Edwards had taken Howard to court.
Edwards, 23, is currently taking Howard to court to determine the child’s paternity.
The baller, 15 years her junior, filed an application to establish paternity and alimony in Georgia in September, asking for genetic testing to confirm whether he’s the daddy.

I literally found out about what I was going through through the blog! This violation of the hippy rules occurred very early in my pregnancy!”
Several commenters shared that rumors about Howard’s pregnancy had surfaced on the Instagram blog @urfavsbeforeig long before news of Edwards’ paternity suit hit the mainstream media.

A fourth commenter referred to Howard’s sequence of events.
“Ayesha is lying. “The first time someone reported on the blog that she was pregnant was because they saw her at her niece’s graduation ceremony,” they wrote. “Then another patient visited her. There were also rumors that she was expecting a boy, so no one really knew his gender. He won’t get anything because there was no violation of hipaa rules. She revealed her gender, but Alexia didn’t post it. Her mother, Gina, also knew she was pregnant as soon as Ayesha found out. She is actually on this app and lying to all of you.”

The couple recently welcomed daughter Aislynn on March 2, 2024, and starred together within the Netflix docuseries “Starting 5.”
Most recently, Ayesha Howard revealed birth of a daughter, her second child, on October 14.
But Edwards’ fatherhood situation doesn’t end there.
Rumors suggest he could have two more children: a boy named Amir, born three months before Aislynn, and a lady named Ally D, who has publicly criticized him, calling him an absentee father.
Another rumor concerns a daughter named Aris, who was allegedly born in September 2023 to a lady named Daja. Called “Little Miss Perfect”, Daja published an entry in regards to the girl’s first birthday on October 1 on social media.
As the November 13 trial date approaches, all eyes are on Howard and Edwards to see if the court proceedings will confirm that Edwards is the daddy of Howard’s child.
Meanwhile, Howard’s hospital lawsuit could set a precedent, drawing attention to patients’ privacy rights and hospital liability within the age of social media.
For now, the world of social media stays within the realm of speculation as to the consequence of those complex personal and legal battles. As one follower he wrote“This is a violation of HIPPA. I hope she wins.”
Whether Howard prevails in court or not, this drama highlights the challenges of navigating privacy and parenting in the general public eye.
