After winning his first gold medal at the Summer Games and becoming the fastest man on the track, Olympian Noah Lyles is ending what could also be the best yr of his life with a brand new title: fiancé.

Lyles proposed to his girlfriend, Jamaican sprinter Junelle Bromfield, and shared a video of the heartwarming moment on Sunday, October 13, with the caption: “To my future wife I will love you forever.”

The footage shows them walking around the back of the house, where large photos of the couple led them to the pool. In front of the pool was an enormous flower heart with the words “Will you marry me?” inside him. The heart was surrounded by the words “Marry Me”, candles, flowers, rose petals and trinkets. The couple was joined by family and friends for a toast to their future.

In clips from the proposal, Lyles might be heard reciting a version of 1 Corinthians 13:4, in which Paul describes the characteristics of affection. (This is a favourite dish at weddings.)

Almost as confident as Lyles was in his talent, he was just as confident in his relationship with Bromfield, lifting his partner’s spirits on social media, including during the Olympics. The Olympic bronze medalist, who represented Jamaica in Paris, became a victim of online violence due to their relationship. Lyles’ victory over Jamaican sprinter Kishane Thompson, which was controversial due to an in depth race, sparked increased criticism, including some colorism towards her.

“I honestly thought we were done with colorism in Jamaica, especially since [sic] a nation full of Black people,” she wrote on Instagram in August in response to the disrespect. “I even have been a victim of cyberbullying for weeks and when people discuss it, I lie because no Jamaican has come for my photos. I could start complaining but I’m just here to tell all the girls/women on my profile that you simply are beautiful regardless of what color, shape or size you might be and in the case of little black girls don’t wait for somebody to let you know that your [sic] It’s beautiful to imagine in it.”

Even before she defended herself, Lyles defended her on social media, celebrating her greatness.

“I just want to say how incredibly proud I am of my girl and give her the flowers she deserves right now 💐,” he wrote. “She’s been through so much in her life that I can’t imagine fighting it. In addition, she is a survivor, a two-time Olympian, an Olympic medalist [sic]multiple world championship medalist and has represented Jamaica on the world stage since she was 8 years old. But the most impressive thing I’ve seen lately is how she deals with the sheer disrespect and hatred towards her from her own country. This woman was attacked by people who had never met her, never heard her name before, never seen her smile or heard what she believed. But she moves forward, knowing that God will always find a way. This is [sic] why does God keep blessing her!”

The couple has been together since 2022 and have known one another for seven years. Congratulations to Lyles and Bromfield in your engagement! We cannot wait to see what’s in store for this couple.
