From the skin, the new work looks like an peculiar, cheerful kid’s book. It is colourful with wonderful, uplifting illustrations by Gladys Jose, but contained in the pages the book gives children a powerful message in regards to the true meaning of freedom, their rights and values on this complex world.

The book was written by athlete, activist and best-selling writer Colin Kaepernick and his partner, activist and radio host Nessa Diab, and is distributed by: Scholastic. Parents of a little girl. Now they’re each inspired greater than ever to understand the importance of the work they do to spotlight injustice and equip youth with what they should proceed this vital work. This is what they already do with their very own Camp Know Your Rightsand that is something they desired to spread more widely within the book. All proceeds from the event might be donated to the Know Your Rights camp.

“We wanted to create something that not only our children could learn from, but also a resource for families around the world to have important conversations about freedom, rights and community,” says ESSENCE.

BEING: Since receiving my copy, my 4-year-old has grow to be very involved in it. What message do you should send to young people like him through this work?

I’m so glad your 4-year-old was involved in our book! Our message to young readers like your child is that they’ve the ability to be free of their thoughts, actions and identities. We want them to grasp that they need to dream big, defend themselves and others, and accept their individuality. It is vital that children know from an early age that their voices matter and that they will contribute to creating a more just and inclusive world.

Colin, this just isn’t your first kid’s book. What’s behind your passion for delivering empowering messages to children moderately than adults?

Empowering children from an early age is amazingly essential since the ideas and values they acquire at an early stage shape their entire lives. If we help them realize their power, they may grow up and be prepared to confront injustice and create meaningful change. Even our nonprofit Know Your Rights Camp, which inspired this book, is deeply rooted in our mission to empower youth: our goal is to advance the liberation and well-being of Black and Brown communities through education, empowerment, mass mobilization, and constructing new systems that support and develop the following generation of change makers.

Did being parents play a role in wanting to create this story? What do you’re keen on most about parenting?

Absolutely! I like being a father and being a dad to a girl is amazing. I do my best to create a loving and caring environment for our daughter, who’s now a toddler. I at all times ask myself how I could be higher for her. For Nessa and I, becoming parents has deepened our understanding of the responsibility we must teach the following generation.

On one in every of the pages of the book it’s written: “You can weather the storm in your path and not go astray.” How do you each cope with the storms which have come during your activism and how do you stay motivated?

We lean on one another and our community. Social advocacy could be difficult and sometimes isolating, but having a strong common foundation allows us to face these challenges together. We proceed to motivate one another by focusing on the positive impact we make. We also remind ourselves that change doesn’t occur overnight and that there’ll at all times be storms, but staying true to our values gives us the strength to maintain moving forward.

We are within the midst of a historic election season, with a lot terrible rhetoric and hurtful headlines. Even though that is a kid’s book, why is that this the proper time to deliver this message?

This is strictly the correct time for this message because children should not proof against what is going on on the earth around them. They see, hear and feel the burden of injustice, even when they can’t at all times express it. it is supposed to offer hope and strength within the face of inauspicious times.

LeBron James is feeling “pure joy” as he begins Lakers training camp with his son Bronny

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (AP) – LeBron James begins his twenty second training camp with the Los Angeles Lakers this week, and this one will probably be a singular experience.

The NBA’s profession scoring leader shares the locker room and court with Bronny James, his 19-year-old son and the Lakers’ second-round draft pick. They will probably be soon the primary father and son in NBA history play together, fulfilling an aspiration first expressed by LeBron several years ago.

The 20-time All-Star didn’t downplay his excitement Monday that considered one of his few remaining basketball dreams had come true.

“There’s a lot of emotion,” LeBron said. “Honestly, it is a pure joy to come back to work every single day, work hard with my son every single day and see him grow. We push one another. He pushes me, I push him. We push our teammates. It’s just a really comfortable moment, not just for me but in addition for our family.”

Father and son wore gold Lakers uniforms together on the team’s media day, posing for countless photos and giving interviews that showcased the family’s easy banter. Bronny’s latest No. 9 jersey reads “JAMES JR.” on the back, in a nod to his full name, LeBron James Jr.

Their partnership is a dream for 39-year-old LeBron, but for Bronny, who turns 20 on Sunday, it was largely surreal. After growing up and excelling in basketball within the shadow of his famous father, Bronny balances the thrill of creating it to the NBA with the duty of adapting to the unprecedented challenge of wearing the identical uniform as his devoted father.

“I think what I’m most looking forward to is training and competing head-to-head with each other,” Bronny said. “It’s a crazy feeling training with my dad and competing at a high level. But then again, dealing with LeBron James every day is a lot of work. But yeah, I’m looking forward to it too.”

They could also be working together, but not every single day will probably be Take Your Son to Work Day for LeBron: Bronny says he’s “definitely not” driving with his father from their home to Lakers practices.

“That’s it, we’ve been grouped together,” Bronny said with a broad smile. “I’d like to stay as far away from this guy as possible.”

LeBron gets it, he said with a grimace.

“Honestly, if you have kids, which is my age and his age, there’s not a lot of interaction on a day-to-day basis,” LeBron said. “He comes, he eats, he goes to his room, he plays a video game. If I’m there with my wife watching a movie, he’ll come over. So it’s not a lot of like, “Meet me at the table at 5 p.m.” We need to discuss work tomorrow. It doesn’t happen.”

On his YouTube talk show, LeBron confirmed his offseason declaration that Bronny couldn’t call him “daddy” at work. Bronny is not so sure, though he admits he’ll try saying “Bron.”

“Whatever comes out of my mouth when I try to talk to him, he will accept it,” Bronny said with a smile. “It doesn’t really mean much. I have not really approached him in any way yet, so we’ll see the way it all goes.

New Lakers coach JJ Redick said last week that he and his family would plan for his or her historic joint appearance firstly of the regular season. It is also assumed that Bronny will spend many of the upcoming season with the G League’s South Bay Lakers, honing his skills after playing sparingly during his only college season in Southern California.

“If we get some opportunities on the court throughout the season, that would obviously be amazing,” LeBron said. “It’s going to be amazing. We will wait for that moment when that happens and then we will act.”

LeBron was 6’1″ during his NBA career and had realistic goals for his 6’1″ son.

“We see him continue to grow as a basketball player, whether he’s here with us or on the G League team, and he continues to get better and better,” LeBron said. “We need to hold him accountable. He will hold us accountable and if all of us do that, we are going to all be higher because we’re all one team. We are a mirrored image of the South Bay. The South Bay is a mirrored image of us. … We will proceed to grow, accumulating days. I do know he will because that is what he wants.

The remainder of the Lakers had nothing but positive thoughts concerning the arrival of their superstar’s son. Anthony Davis takes first-hand pride in Bronny’s arrival, watching his development over the past half-century from teenager to NBA prospect.

“It’s amazing. It’s historic. This is powerful,” Davis said. “Bronny’s locker is across from mine, so every time I go in there and see him, it’s still surreal to me that he’s on the same team as his dad. I can’t wait for them to get on the court and officially make history, but so far it’s been really great to watch.”

Conservatives launch attack on Michelle Obama for ‘looking old’ after her powerful anti-Trump speech

Michelle Obama Donald DNC

Former first lady Michelle Obama is not any longer within the White House with her husband and former President Barack Obama, but some conservatives reserve venom for her stays.

The former lawyer became a public figure by proxy 16 years ago as Barack campaigned to turn out to be the nation’s forty fourth president, witnessing seemingly limitless racist attacks online.

Today, the web attacks haven’t modified as Michelle continues to be energetic in politics, lending her support to the Democratic Party within the name of preserving democracy. In August, she spoke on the party’s national convention, encouraging voters to vote for Vice President Kamala Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz.

Michelle’s outspokenness in criticizing Republican candidate and former President Donald J. Trump for his divisive political ethos renewed misogyny and other people criticized her for her appearance. As the media documented during Barack’s two terms as president, the “Becoming” writer was singled out for her muscular arms, in comparison with a gorilla and described as too masculine.

The latter comment resurfaced on Twitter when she posted a video promoting her latest book, “The Light We Carry,” on September 28. The minute-long clip shows the Princeton and Harvard law school graduate visiting the McNally Jackson bookstore in New York to sign copies of her works that were on display.

In closing, Michelle had an easy message, encouraging people to “read, vote and be kind.” Lots of users responded to the post. Some offered her current reading material, and others suggested books she could add to her library. Among the combatants were hecklers who gathered to criticize her.

“You washed the old hag” he wrote one user. Someone else maliciously he wrote“You definitely must stop taking close-ups when recording selfie videos. Please.” Many other people targeted Michelle’s gender, calling her “Mike” and claiming she had a “receding hairline.”

When one other Twitter user highlighted a negative comment that suggested, “Michelle looks very different from her recent DNC appearance,” her followers showed up able to defend Barack’s wife.

AND answer read: “Well, he’s 60 years old and he’ll look different up close. Weird whether it’s male or female and I do not care, but she still looked like Michelle Obama…”

Another defender hits out again at perceived ageist hatred he said“Michelle Obama is 60 and terrible!” Another positive answer read: “Beautiful, I love your style too.”

Since leaving D.C. in 2017, Michelle has been praised by fans, especially Black women, for her head-to-toe style, which has since included quite a lot of braided and natural hairstyles.

In a 2022 interview, she admitted that she kept her hair straight while within the White House because America was still not getting used to having its first black family within the White House.
