Robert Pattinson told to stop doing his Jackass voices because they sounded like ‘nails on a chalkboard’

and director Bong Joon-ho have chosen heartthrob turned serious actor Robert Pattinson to star in his upcoming film science fiction movie about a guy who was cloned and killed in space. Pattinson was apparently experimenting with very funky voices for the 2 clones, but Bong told him no.

“My initial idea was to do a Steve-O and Johnny Knoxville impression (from )” – Pattinson he said in a recent interview. “I love Steve-O’s voice. We did this on the first reading. And Bong said, “That voice sounds like nails on a chalkboard.” I thought, “Is this good?” He replied, “No.”

Since Pattinson plays each copy of the titular Mickey, an unlucky blue-collar worker who became a test subject for a colony ship, he had to find a way to distinguish the individual numbered versions. “I just had the idea that she was kind of like a dog with a complete lack of self-esteem,” he said. “He just shows up, reports for duty. But I hope it turns out to be a combination of deep, misguided guilt and survival. He’s the one who just says, “I’m just going to keep lowering my expectations.” Great mood, as the kids say.

Pattinson ultimately settled on the equally unlikely inspiration for the voices of Mickey 17 and 18. “(Mickey 17 is) kind of like Stimpy,” he said, referring to the 1990s Nickelodeon absurdist about a chihuahua and a cat. “When 18 comes along, he’s a little more like Ren.” will hit theaters on January 31, 2025, but in case you want to try Pattinson’s inspirations, it’s currently available to stream on Paramount+.
