Two parents have been charged after allegedly trying to murder their 17-year-old daughter for refusing an arranged marriage abroad to an older man.

The criminal charges against Ihsan Ali and his wife Zahraa Ali stem from an attack they were accused of carrying out at their daughter’s school on October 18 in Lacey, Washington.

According to court documents obtained by ENTERIhsan Ali was seen by multiple witnesses choking his teenage daughter “to the point that she lost consciousness.” Investigators say his wife, Zahraa, also grabbed her and choked her.

Authorities say the couple attempted an “honor killing” for his or her daughter’s riot.

The teenager told investigators that after refusing to allow her parents to take her on a plane to Iraq, where she was to get married, she ran away and turned to her school for help.

When her parents found her outside Timberline High School on Oct. 18, her dad ran out of his pickup truck and commenced yelling at his daughter in Arabic. Another student, who understood what he was shouting, intervened on his daughter’s behalf and told him to “leave her alone.”

This caused the girl’s father to fly right into a rage – according to court documents – and attacked his daughter.

Court documents show that in the course of the attack, Ali also punched her daughter’s boyfriend, “who fell to the concrete.”

School officials warned Zahraa Ali that her next visit to school would result in delinquency charges, and Barnes obtained a restraining order against her for his son.

Barnes said that on the day of the attack, the parents visited his home to inquire concerning the child’s whereabouts. When Barnes told Ali he is likely to be at college, he texted his son to warn him of their arrival.

After the attack, when the girl was safely separated from her parents, the police were called to the college.

Both Ihsan and Zahraa Ali were charged with attempted murder, assault and kidnapping.

Barnes said that before the attack, the college told his son to walk his daughter to town bus stop and expressed concern that an adult couldn’t escort her, especially because the school knew about her situation.

“I’m glad he was there and saved her life, but I need more explanation as to why the adults were so careless,” he said. he said FOX13Seattle.

Daughter Alis is currently in the care of an area shelter.
