Nick Cannon admits being ‘Mariah Carey’s man’ made him question his masculinity

In a recent podcast interview, Nick Cannon admitted that his insecurities got the most effective of him during his marriage to Mariah Carey..

Cannon showed his vulnerability by opening up about how being married to Mariah Carey affected his ego, mainly because he didn’t feel like he had reached his full potential and was combating his identity.

“I got married after I was 20. You know what I mean? The biggest star on the planet,” he said

“My trajectory was here,” he said, pointing down, “and then hers — she’s already in a different stratosphere.”

The 12-year-old’s father also admitted that he was comfortable being the singer’s husband and living in her bubble. “She has islands, and I wake up at noon and people bring me steaks on a plate,” he joked.

“I’d lie awake at night and think, ‘Is this me? Am I Mariah’s man? Is this what my life must be like? – said the TV personality. “There’s nothing wrong with that.”

The former couple secretly married in May 2008. They have two children together – twins Moroccan and Monroe, who were born in 2011. Having children clarified Cannon’s insecurities and caused him to further struggle with his masculinity and the “hierarchy” of the family.

“I carry a handbag, a diaper bag, and, you recognize, I stand on the corner and say, ‘Wait.’ He’s great at being alpha.”

Cannon continued, “I believe she needs a man like that. I’m just not that guy. Cannon also shared that he got along well with the long-lasting singer they usually rarely argued.

Their marriage lasted about six years – in 2014, the primary couple announced that they were divorcing. Neither Carey nor Cannon have remarried since their divorce nearly a decade ago. While the artist fathered ten more children with multiple women, Carey had no more children.

In the 2023 interview, Nick also admitted that his ex-wife is the love of his life and praised the mother of his twins for her positive attitude.

“No matter what happens in life. “I thought to myself, ‘Wow, a person can really act like that and not let negative energy come into their space,'” he said. “When I found out how extraordinary she is… this woman is not human. She is a gift from God.”
