Daniel Kaluuya fans are collectively outraged by a statue in London for his role in the movie ‘Get Out’.
It looks like “Get Out” star Daniel Kaluuya shall be trapped in the “flooded place” ceaselessly, and his fans are still outraged.
The British-born actor, who starred in Jordan Peele’s directorial debut in 2017, was honored for his role as Chris Washington earlier this month with a statue in London’s iconic Leicester Square.
In this horror comedy, Kaluuya stars as an aspiring photographer who’s drawn into a twisted soul-snatching experiment where wealthy white people can literally live vicariously as Black people.
The film was Kaluuya’s breakout role and set him on the path to starring in several other big-budget movies akin to “Black Panther” and “Judas and the Black Messiah.” The latter earned him an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in 2021 for his role as Black Panther leader Fred Hampton.
On September 30, Kaluuya broke the news to fans about his “Get Out” statuette. In part, he wrote, “The most special thing about it is that it was chosen by the people.”
In his Instagram post, he posted a still shot of a scene in which Chris falls into a dark, bottomless pit called “the sunken place” after being put under hypnosis by his white girlfriend Rose Armitage’s mother. This is the moment in the film when the viewer begins to completely realize the mortal danger he’s in.
On October 9, a monument was unveiled as a part of Scenes on the Square. The interactive trail launched in 2020 and pays tribute to “the most beloved characters and iconic movie scenes” in cinema and entertainment.
Some of the other statues include Bugs Bunny, Paddington Bear, Batman, Wonder Woman, Mr. Bean, Harry Potter, Mary Poppins, and now, in fact, Kaluuya as Chris.
However, the honor was tarnished by fans who are still disillusioned with the commemoration weeks later. “This is how white people are playing in your face” – critically commented one person.
Kaluuya was present for the big reveal, and photographs of the ceremony shows him inspecting the statue, walking around it and thoroughly observing the details. He sometimes nods and narrows his eyes, which some observers consider a sign of his disapproval.
“He hates it so much lol,” one person said. Another comment said, “Well even he looks embarrassed by what’s going on.”

Addressing the media at the event, Kaluuya said: “This is a crucial moment in the film – it’s amazing that they were in a position to capture it. It’s amazing how dynamic the statue is; I actually like it too.
According to reports, the actor was involved in the statue design by Sally Regis, director of the creative company 3D Eye.
“We met with him at the starting to debate how he felt when he made this film, what it meant to him. We learned a little about his background and the way vital his London roots are to him,” she told ITV News. “So creating something that shall be celebrated in London, in the home of cinema, I do know it can be crucial to him and that made it a real pleasure for us to work on.
“I think people will absolutely love this movie. It has such movement in it,” she added.
Nevertheless, critics consider that Daniel’s character might have been portrayed in a different way.
One such comment read: “They made a statue of a black man falling into a sunken place. I do not think it’s the best look. As one other simply joked, “They like to see the black man fall… but ok.”
An equally dynamic scene is the moment when Chris wakes up, tied to a leather chair and compelled to observe stories of white people extracting the essence of black people from their bodies, giving wealthy clients a second life. Another situation occurs when tears flow from Chris’ eyes after witnessing him fall into a sunken spot as a result of hypnosis.
Kaluuya and Peele reunited for the suspenseful sci-fi horror film “Nope” in 2022.
