Meryl Streep and Cher confront ‘giant man’ to save ‘screaming’ woman – leaves her speechless in new clip
Meryl Streep and Cher will not be only Oscar winners, but in addition real superheroes.
In the Nineteen Eighties, fellow celebrities saved a woman from a brutal attack on the sometimes cruel, mean streets of New York.
The “Believe” singer shared the harrowing experience while appearing on “The Late Late Show with James Corden” with the British host in 2018 while promoting “Mama Mia: Here We Go Again.”
Nearly 40 years ago, the singer-turned-actress remembered it prefer it was yesterday, recalling how a “giant man” attacked a young woman and when she saw it, she immediately took motion.
According to Cher, Meryl had just given birth to her daughter Mamie Gummer in 1983 and was living in her old apartment in downtown Manhattan. During her visit, the “The Devil Wears Prada” star told her he wanted to go get “some ice cream.”
Cher agreed and they each left.
“I said, ‘But is it dangerous down here?’ – asked the now 78-12 months-old. Cher remembers a friend telling her, “Oh no. It’s Little Italy on one side and Chinatown on the opposite, and we’ll be as secure as two peas in a pod.
The star continued by saying, “And so we go out and the first thing we see is a guy hitting cars with a brick.”
Luckily, so far as she knew on the time, nobody was hurt, but that was about to change soon.
“And then we were walking down the street and we heard screaming,” she said. “And we come around the corner and this giant man rips this girl’s clothes off.”
It would have been reasonable for the 2 of them to run away or call the police, but they did neither. Instead, they did the unthinkable.
“Meryl starts screaming, I start screaming, we run towards this giant man and he turns around and starts running towards us. And we just, I don’t know, separated and he ran through us,” she said. “And so we approached the girl and her clothes were torn and she was clutching her bag.”
But then, because the young woman looked up to see who had come to save her, she passed out, saying – according to the “I Got You Babe” singer: “Oh my God! Meryl Streep and Cher saved me. I’m an actress and I work in a restaurant where we sing, and all my friends can be very jealous.”
The story got here back after this happened sent via The Cher Planet fan page on Instagram, where many fans participated.
Some people were shocked that they were so close and wrote: “I’m sorry, MERYL AND CHER ARE THE BEST?!?!” now it is a power couple.”
The powerhouse duo can be a box office favorite, with 4 of the movies they starred in still available on DVD or streaming: “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again”, “Skinwalker Ranch”, “Stuck on You” and “Silkwood”.
In early spring, the 2 wore outfits similar to those they wore when “Silkwood” premiered 40 years ago on the 2024 iHeart Radio Music Awards, New York Post reports.
However, fans also focused on the story of the heroic act.
“Imagine Cher and Meryl Streep saving me,” we read in the comment.
One person explained: “Superpowers can take plenty of courage. Thank God she wanted ice cream. This was the universe telling them that they had a job to do.
Some wanted to hear what the waitress was saying, and others who said, “I bet the waitress has been telling this story for years, but everyone always said, ‘Suuuure, they actually did it.'”
“I can’t even believe that damn CHER and MERYL STREEP saved me,” one person noted, adding: “I would totally forget about sa and I would be impressed too.”
Cher has told this story persistently. When she visited “The Ellen Show” in 2018, she shared the identical story, except with some new details, resembling adding that the incident occurred at night and the person was wearing a tracksuit or basketball shorts.
She also explained that the person was a robber and “wanted” her purse, but made no mention of sexual assault.
Cher also said she thought, “I’m going to kill myself. My friend is going to kill me,” but once the danger was over, the buddies began trying to cure the young lady once they were recognized.
