On September 10, Baby2Baby, a national nonprofit that has donated greater than 450 million essentials to children living in poverty across the country over the past 13 years, hosted a volunteer event at Center415 in New York City to support a brand new initiative to combat the maternal health crisis.
Baby2Baby’s Maternal Health & Newborn Supplies Kit program expanded to ten states earlier this yr, including New York, marking a major step within the organization’s ongoing mission to provide essential supplies to moms and babies in need.
Some of our favourite celebrities like Ciara and Kelly Rowland and more have joined the organization to volunteer to assemble Maternal Health and Newborn Supplies kits that shall be delivered to mothers immediately after giving birth in New York City hospitals. The kits contain essentials for the health and well-being of each the mother and the newborn, including diapers, hygiene products, breastfeeding supplies, postpartum care supplies, and educational materials.
“We couldn’t be more proud to bring Baby2Baby Maternal Health & Newborn Supply Kits to New York City, our second largest territory where we serve 200,000 babies each year,” said Baby2Baby Co-CEOs Norah Weinstein and Kelly Sawyer Patricof. “The program’s goal is to address the mental health issues of new mothers who cannot afford the essential supplies their newborns desperately need. We’re thrilled that starting tomorrow, we’ll be able to deliver the kits directly to New York City hospitals for mothers and babies who deserve our support.”
As previously reported, maternal mortality rates within the United States have greater than doubled up to now 20 years, disproportionately affecting Black moms. Recognizing the urgent need for motion, Baby2Baby was chosen by the White House last yr to pilot this program in partnership with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The initiative began in three pilot states with the best rates of maternal mortality and child poverty—Louisiana, Arkansas, and New Mexico.
