Last night, designer Diotima Rachel Scott transported us to a sultry, sun-drenched, red-candle-lit oasis in lower Manhattan for her SS25 NYFW show. Models strutted to the tunes of Sade in beautiful knits. And to keep with the Jamaican folk theme, Scott tapped her trusted celebrity hairstylist Joey George to swept-back ponytails and teased bangs. Meanwhile, the star’s makeup artist Kanako Takase she decided to apply finger painting and thickened eyelashes.

“It’s all about the big, ready-made false lashes,” says Takase. The makeup star used Addiction Tokyo Intense Mascara, Addiction Tokyo Gel Eyeliner and finger paint to create an ombre effect and enhance the false lashes. Takase also drew small daisies on his eyelids as a nod to nature.

To complete the look, George kept it cool with pulled-back ponytails. “We do everything we can to preserve and protect everyone’s hair, especially textured hair.” To make certain that was the case, he reached for Oribe Royal Blowout Foundation Mist. “It adds shine and gloss to the hair and generally helps with blow-drying and stretching the texture,” says George.

“Then section by section, as I go and gather my hair, I use this super thin, strong hairspray to just gather everything back together in very clean, smooth sections, and everything is pointing back and away from my face.” Oribe Rock Gel, Oribe Gel Serum and Oribe Curl Gloss were also used to enhance shine, break up the curls and provides them more definition.

George says Diotima’s show is inspired by Jamaican Pocomania, which suggests “a little bit of madness” in Jamaican folklore. “There’s a really cool little act where they walk through the space, kind of pushing people out of the way,” he says. “A diva mentality of walking through a crowd of people,” if you happen to will.

“If you’ve ever seen Rachel’s shows, her looks are very lavish,” says George. “It’s not necessarily just fashion. It’s an experience and a performance.”
