Angel Reese uses social media to explain wrist injury that will sideline her for rest of WNBA season
Angel Reese took to social media to detail her season-ending injury — a minor bone fracture in her wrist that will require surgery Tuesday.
“I fell on my hand when I got the and-one, when I fell backwards (and) I fell on my hand, and that was a little crack in my bone” – Reese he said within the movie she posted on her TikTok late Sunday evening.
“Basically, the doctors told me I could either not have the surgery or I could have the surgery. The risks of not having the surgery—I could literally have arthritis at 22. That wasn’t an option. The bone could literally snap and completely shatter. Now it’s like a hairline… They’re going to put a little screw in it. And I wasn’t going to let it get any bigger.”
Reese said she will wear a tough solid for 4 weeks, then a soft one for two weeks.
“In the long run, I might just not play because this is a very difficult area to heal because the blood flow is very poor or non-existent,” she said, pointing to her right wrist, which is wrapped in a soft black solid.
Reese, the seventh overall pick within the draft, finished the season averaging 13.6 points and 13.1 rebounds, the best rebounding average in WNBA history. Reese also set a rookie record with 26 double-doubles — the last coming in a 92-78 win over Los Angeles on Friday night.
Reese has been linked to Indiana rookie Caitlin Clark since they faced off within the NCAA championship two years ago. Reese’s LSU team got here away with a victory. This season, they lifted the WNBA in TV rankings, attendance and merchandise sales.

“It’s definitely sad when you see someone go down with an injury, especially guys you started out with in this league,” Clark said Sunday. “You want her to finish the 12 months. Obviously, she had a historic 12 months and did some incredible things.
“For me, playing against her, her motor is there — if not the best in the league. She just keeps working. I thought she had an incredible year. I thought she came into the league and really did what she’s done well her whole career, as long as I’ve known her. It’s really devastating. That’s never something you want to see in a player.”
Reese said she will proceed training and participating in off-the-field activities during her recovery.
“In the meantime, I’ll be in a cast for four weeks … in the meantime, I’ll just be lifting, running, working out, shooting left-handed, dribbling and doing different things with my left hand, working on my nutrition,” Reese said. “(I’ll) keep modeling, keep podcasting, keep being the bad guy … and supporting my teammates from afar. Well, not from afar, but from the bench … I still believe we’re still in the playoffs.”
Reese responded in a video to suggestions on social media that she was pregnant, claiming it was not true.
“It was never important… I want to make this clear, I don’t have a man to have kids, I don’t have a ring to have kids. I’m 22 and I don’t have kids. And I’m not planning on having kids,” she said. “So it’s not going to be important anytime soon. I want you to know that. Because I know you like to have some clicks.”
Chicago currently sits in the ultimate playoff spot, one game ahead of Atlanta. The Sky will face Washington on Wednesday.
