Fans say ‘struggle was noticeable’ as Ginuwine breaks silence on relapse after decades of abusing pot, ecstasy and alcohol

Ginuwine celebrates two months of sobriety!

The legendary R&B artist took to his Instagram account to share some excellent news and words of encouragement for anyone combating sobriety, posting the message on Thursday, September 5.

The “So Anxious” singer has spoken candidly about his decades-long battle with alcohol and drug addiction. The battle began with grief when Ginuwine lost each of his parents inside a yr of one another. His father committed suicide in 1999, and his mother died of cancer lower than a yr later.

Under the emotionless selfie, he began writing: “I’m counting!!!! I’m still going strong, 2 months sober. It may seem like a while to you, but for me and most people it’s a lifetime, so I say don’t be ashamed to seek help like I did, because many times, well, most times, you’re the one who needs that support!!!!”

The 53-year-old continued the lengthy caption by applauding himself for fighting through his sobriety journey. He said: “I love the fact that I didn’t let myself down!!!! I stood on my toes TEN10 THAT let me know I could do this.”

He then gave some self-affirmations, writing, “I am worthy, I am strong, I deserve better, I know what’s coming for me, I know the struggle, I knew what was coming for me so I stayed strong,” before ending the caption with words of encouragement for many who could also be combating addiction themselves.

“Anyone going through addiction, drugs, alcoholism, please, please, please, look inside yourself and know that you are better than failure!!!!you are strong!!!!you are ME!!!!!awesome!!!!Get up, let’s go!!! We can do this,” Ginuwine concluded.

He received so much of praise and support within the comments under his post, some of it coming not only from fans but additionally from his famous colleagues.

“The Game” actor Pooch Hall wrote, “Welcome to the Sober Club! One of the best to be a part of!” Last October, Hall celebrated five years of sobriety after being arrested in 2018 for DUI and child endangerment. He was released on $100,000 bail.

B2K singer Omarion, who recently announced his decision to turn out to be celibate, commented with fire and hands-up emojis.

His former TGT group member Tank wrote, “Just Superman doing Superman stuff! LET’S DO IT!!!!”

Fans wrote: “Huge respect for your transparency, honesty and determination. He’s a real man. Focus” and “Great job!! Keep pushing Ginuwine, you can do it!”

Focusing on his appearance, one person said: “2 months sober has him looking like the same old G.” Another added: “Looking fit and healthy.”

A 3rd said: “Looking good!! Saw him at ATL in February and was sad because you could tell he was struggling. Sending him prayers and strength to keep going. Two months turned into two years!! Trying to hear another TGT album, thank God.”

The drug rumors first surfaced in 2013 during an ungainly live appearance by TGT on WLNY’s “The Couch.”

While promoting his debut album, Three Kings, Ginuwine had trouble concentrating on stage as he repeatedly blinked his eyes, rocked back and forth, and stroked his legs, swinging them backward and forward.

A couple of years ago, Ginuwine told Essence magazine how he managed to remain sober for seven years despite losing each his parents in such a short while.

In 2018, he said: “At that time, there was no one I really loved, so I turned to drinking and drugs like weed and ecstasy. I was mentally and emotionally drained to the point that I had to see a shrink, but it didn’t do any good because I wasn’t interested. In fact, the two times I went to see him, I was high. I was depressed and felt like I had no one to talk to or who could relate to me.”

Ginuwine continued, saying the turning point in his life was “when a friend intervened and begged (him) to seek help.”

While therapy didn’t necessarily prove to be the reply for him, the TGT member said he “regained my spiritual balance” and was “able to turn away from everything that was destroying me and finally think clearly.”

“I had to consider whether I wanted to go away like my father and let my children suffer as I suffered,” he said.
