A brand new cut and color can transform you into probably the most unexpected person. This week, actress Taraji P. Henson proved it, taking up her latest role as businesswoman and lover of “Vivian Thomas” with an asymmetrical orange pixie cut on the New York premiere.
Her hairstyle – next to the ’70s inverted bob Terrence Howard––it was characterised by short, naturally toned sides and back, maintaining the form of her normal cut (see: her take a look at ). However, the self-proclaimed “Minister of Hairstyles” and hair stylist Tim Wallace swept an impulsive, brilliant orange hue through her hair, adding an experimental, “just dyed in the bathroom sink” feel to the look.
“If you don’t show women how to be strong and have a voice, how will they know” Henson told ESSENCE on the black carpet. And her punk hairdo says all of it, similar to her message does. Drenched in hair grease like Heath Ledger in , strands of hair clash together, hanging in her face.
To match the look to the makeup, the makeup artist Saisha Beecham she selected more innocent, light pink shades for her cheeks and lips to balance her cheekiness, which also translated into her pale, stiletto-shaped nails (à la Tease Jackson.) Now, in the complete glory of the Vivian Thomas version, we get a peek inside and discover what we are able to expect from Henson any more — the unexpected.
