T-Boz addresses Ruth’s Chris restaurant after she and her crew were ‘racially attacked’ and asked to change seats due to dressing room incident

Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins took to social media to criticize suburban Chicago restaurant Ruth’s Chris Steak House after what she described as racial discrimination. The legendary TLC member had lots to say in regards to the alleged mistreatment she experienced on the restaurant.

“We came to Northbrook, IL to Ruth’s Chris. Now I put on a hat because like I said I’m tired and I’ve been traveling all day so my hair is not done and I’m not taking my hat off,” T-Boz told her followers in a video posted to Instagram.

She said, “All of a sudden, after 20 minutes, the manager came in and said I had to take my hat off. I said, ‘I’m not doing that.’ So she said, ‘You have to sit at the bar.’” Apparently, two other customers didn’t have to take their hats off to eat on the table.

T-Boz also had questions on the off-putting experience. The 54-year-old Atlanta native said, “I came to find out, Shaggy’s crew, my crew, everyone’s crew, they look like they’re sitting in Massa’s section. Why are all the black people sitting in that section?”

Additionally, T-Boz captioned her Instagram post, “I don’t expect special treatment, but I do expect the RULES to make sense… So make them make sense… She was contradicting herself and NO ONE WAS DOING (THEIR) JOB SO WE LEFT AND DIDN’T EAT THERE… And a lot of our crew felt racist… Just saying.”

T-Boz’s comments in regards to the Northbrook location of Ruth’s Chris Steak House have drawn attention on social media. “The way the manager in Northbrook, IL treated T-Boz, I would rate you all 0 if that was possible!” wrote one person, who gave the restaurant a 1/5 rate in Google reviews.

Many of her supporters, including other celebrities, got here to the Grammy Award winner’s defense online.

Jamaican dancehall icon Shaggy wrote: “Tell them girl!!” Chase Anela Rolison, T-Boz’s 23-year-old daughter with ex-husband Mack 10, wrote: “And also that’s not just a hat, that’s a gallery section… (You should) tell her your hat cost more than the bill, period.”

Stand-up comedian Lunelle commented: “Let me not say what I want to say so I don’t get banned from Instagram. They probably don’t know who your ex-husband is AND who you are, queen!!”

T-Boz and West Coast rapper Mack 10 were married for 4 years.

Fans also weighed in on the alleged racial incident. One person said, “Sounds like they’ve reached their melanization limit.” Another said, “I love how you hold (people) accountable. Nobody fucks with my T.”

However, T-Boz was met with some backlash within the Instagram comments section. For example, a commenter asked, “That video wasn’t necessarily necessary, why do we need to know that?”

Other Instagram users noted that Ruth’s Chris has a policy listed on the corporate’s website. “If that was a policy, they shouldn’t have let you in… let alone sat down and ordered. It’s all their fault,” one person mused.

Another said: “It’s on their website… but considering the fact that they were talking to you they should have made an exception.”

The steakhouse chain has a “first-time visitor’s guide” that outlines the foundations for wearing head coverings in restaurants.

“If you are wearing a hat or a team jersey, you are welcome to wear it in our bar and outside areas. However, we ask that guests remove their hats upon entering other dining areas,” the note reads. ruthschris.com.

As of press time, Ruth’s Chris Steak House has not responded to T-Boz. A representative for the corporate is probably going already aware of the singer’s accusations of racial profiling, because the official Ruth Chris’ Instagram Account was inundated with offended comments.

“Regulate the rules without disrespecting a world famous celebrity like T-Boz. Shame and sad!! Do better. Go to Steak 48!” read one comment on the verified page @ruthschris.

Another T-Boz supporter added, “Don’t do T-Boz wrong! Don’t ever eat at your place! I wouldn’t do that because I’m vegan but justice for Tboz!” Additionally, a TLC fan wrote, “How dare you treat (T-Boz) like this!”

In her Instagram post, T-Boz wrote, partly: “The thing is, everyone’s been saying they’ve been feeling some weird vibes at this Ruth’s Chris, so it looks like all the employees need to have a little talk, even the ones that manage there, because they’re not doing it right, honey.”
