Dwyane Wade Breaks Silence on Marital Issues with Gabrielle Union, Fueling Long-Rumored Recent Split

Actress Gabrielle Union and her husband, 13-time NBA All-Star Dwyane Wade, just celebrated their tenth wedding anniversary with family and friends.

In addition to posting photos and videos from the ceremony, where the 2 thanked one another and their community for supporting them during a few of the most difficult times of the past decade, the Bring It On actor paid a special tribute.

“10 years of very long, very fun, very loving, endless nights of slumber parties with my buddy, lover, partner and best friend,” Union wrote in her first post.

“Through sickness and health, crisis and celebration, bad golf days and bad lines and new adventures,” she continued. “We are united and thriving. 10 toes down, 10 years in, eternity to the end.”

It was a bit beyond her capabilities, but Union sang Shania Twain’s “You’re Still the One” a capella in a separate Instagram video published after the ceremony.

The “Perfect Find” star wears a navy blue Prada straw hat that lets her naturally curly hair peek out, and she or he wears matching cotton dungarees.

The clip quickly moves on to her with her hair in a full braid and searching gorgeous in a vivid pink sequined dress, sitting across from her beau on a stone balcony overlooking the guests, singing the chart-topping song.

Union’s caption read: “Whenever someone asks me what I want for a gift, I always say ‘effort.’ So this year I wanted to show him how much he means to me, with love and effort. Because he is STILL the one.”

While the gesture was sweet and plenty of on her Instagram page praised her effort, saying, “A of Effort and Execution! Go Gabby!” and “I love this. So brave and beautiful Gab,” not everyone was so kind.

When the Shadow Room published In a clip on her platform, many individuals found her efforts admirable, while others brought up a few of the difficult elements of their marriage, mocking her for sticking with her man despite the ups and downs.

One person defending their relationship said: “It’s a bit embarrassing for me, but I love love.”

“Say what you will about them! Half of you can’t keep a guy for 10 minutes. Happy anniversary,” one other person said.

The comment suddenly took a turn for the more serious when one person replied: “Including her because he had a child with her, she just stayed because she must be desperate.” Someone else wrote: “This is so embarrassing, didn’t he have a child with her.”

Another person said: “I laugh when people think this is a show-off wedding song… THIS SONG IS LITERALLY ABOUT BETRAYAL AND TAKING BACK AFTER BETRAYAL.”

In 2013, the three-time NBA champion fathered a toddler during a temporary separation from Union. The child, Xavier Zechariah Wade, was born to Wade and his longtime friend, Aja Metoyer. Wade and Union began dating in 2008 and married years later in 2014.

Because Xavier was born while they were together, many accused the previous NBA player of cheating on his then-fiancée. That pregnancy and birth nearly put their six-year relationship on the road. However, they reconciled, with the couple publicly declaring they were “on a break” during that point. Fans have questioned that narrative for the past decade, most recently last 12 months after Wade took the 10-year-old to a Lakers basketball game, sparking rumors of a breakup.

Union later spoke in regards to the difficulty of dealing with the situation, but stated that the couple was capable of move forward and focused on rebuilding their relationship and continuing to support one another. She also revealed that the situation improved when she learned to be present in Wade’s kid’s lives.

“When I became a stepmother, I was like, ‘I don’t know what to do,’” she told HelloBeautiful in 2023. “They have their mom, she’s alive. I don’t know what to do, but I’m with them every day. Should I be their friend?”

The “Truth Be Told” star said she “had to figure out how to be consistent, caring, compassionate and loving to each and every one of them. I knew a one-size-fits-all solution wasn’t going to work.”

Wade has two children, Zaire and Zaya, with his ex-wife Siohvaughn Funches-Wade, and in addition cares for his nephew, Dahveon Morris.

It was also vital to them as they raised their daughter, Kaavia James, who was born via surrogacy. Now 6, the little girl is a joy to the family, living as much as her nickname, “Shady Baby.”

Many looked past Wade’s shortcomings as a partner and focused solely on Union’s singing, teasing her for not being one of the best vocalist. Some posted tomato emojis within the comments section and criticized her voice for parts where she didn’t sing perfectly.

“I love this from her, she could have hired Shania Twain or someone else to sing it for him,” one fan wrote.

Others moaned at those that saw no beauty in her offering, saying, “Did she sound awful? Absolutely. But was it a beautiful, pure expression? Absolutely, too. And I’m sure he liked that.”

“Shania is turning in her grave… and she’s still alive,” one other person joked.
