When LeBron James begins his twenty first NBA season on Oct. 22, he’ll make league history as one half of the first father-son duo to play together on an NBA team. As theGrio previously reported, his 19-year-old son, Bronny James, the 2024 Olympic MVP, will join him on the Lakers for his rookie season.

“There is no greater accomplishment that could outdo me than being on the same floor as my son,” LeBron said “Today” programmeCraig Melvin in July, according to People Magazine“This is the greatest thing that ever happened.”

But when the rookie and the GOAT take the court, LeBron has some ground rules for his oldest son. “(Bronny) can’t call me dad in the workplace,” he said in trailer in the latest episode of his Uninterrupted podcast, “The Shop.”

“We can’t run down the field and he’ll say, ‘Dad, push the ball up! Dad, I’m open! Dad, come on!'” he added.

So what should his firstborn call him when he’s in the game? LeBron suggested his latest teammate call him by his jersey number, “2-3,” and even “Bron.”

“Or, you know, GOAT, if he wants to. It’s up to him,” the Lakers star joked.

It’s protected to say that the upcoming season may very well be the “best ever” for the veteran, who has made no secret of his long-standing desire to play alongside his son in the NBA. He told Today that Bronny’s signing with the Lakers was “the biggest accomplishment I’ve ever had.”

This milestone is much more monumental considering that in July 2023, Bronny suffered a cardiac arrest during practice in his first and only season with the University of Southern California Trojans. The health issues led to a diagnosis of an “anatomically and functionally significant congenital heart defect,” causing Bronny to miss the first eight games of the season.

With that crisis now behind him, Bronny can be sharing the court with an NBA legend he knows higher than anyone else — but he’ll have to stay skilled on the job.

“Once we leave the private facility and the gates close, I can be ‘daddy’ again,” James admitted. “In the car, if we drive together, I can be daddy. At home, I can be daddy.”
