Indiana woman hit pregnant woman holding baby with baseball bat during racist tirade, court documents allege

Authorities have arrested an Indiana woman accused of hitting a pregnant woman with a baseball bat and hurling insults and insults at her during a heated confrontation.

Angela Canaday has been charged with two offences following the alleged assault – one count of assault occasioning bodily harm to a pregnant woman and one count of intimidation.

Court documents say Canaday, 49, called 911 on Aug. 20 to report she had hit one other woman with a baseball bat, CBS4 reportedThe New Castle Police Department responded to the report and detectives interviewed the alleged victim.

The pregnant woman told police her encounter with Canaday began when she left her home to call her friend’s babysitting child to return home. At that time, Canady got here outside and allegedly began yelling on the woman and hurling racial slurs at her, in response to court documents.

The pregnant woman told police she warned Canaday not to make use of such language because there have been children nearby, stating, “There are a lot of kids outside.”

At that moment, Canaday entered the home, grabbed a black wood baseball bat, and walked outside.

The situation allegedly escalated when Canaday began hurling more insults after which attacked the pregnant victim.

“(Canaday) said, ‘Go ahead, you n—– loving f—— b——,’” the documents read. “(Canaday) then charged at (the woman) in an aggressive manner, holding a bat in her right hand and swinging it at (the woman) while (she) held her child.”

According to the documents, Canady attacked the pregnant woman while she was holding her baby. She then allegedly told the victim she would “kill her” and again called her a “f—— b——.”

The victim told detectives the encounter left her “fearing for her life.”

Canady was booked into the Henry County Jail on Aug. 20 and appeared in court last week for a preliminary hearing.
