Throughout her journey to becoming probably the most decorated U.S. gymnast, Simone Biles has all the time made sure to credit her parents for helping her change into who she is today.

Her parents, Ronald, who can be her biological grandfather, and his wife of over 40 years, Nellie, adopted Simone and her younger sister, Adria, after their mother lost custody of them and her other siblings on account of her drug addiction.

Simone’s biological mother, Shanon, announced two weeks ago that she desired to reconnect with the world-famous gymnast, but is waiting for Simone to contact her after her failed attempts.

Shanon explained that she had been receiving updates on how Simone was feeling via her father in an interview with The Daily Mail, which was not all the time the case as their relationship was once volatile.

She claims that after Ronald gained custody of her daughters, communication between them diminished and he “turned (her) on.” The recent Biles family drama has resurfaced on the web and in the present news cycle because of a 2016 interview in which Ronald, now 75, recounts how he adopted his two grandchildren.

Ronald shared with Houston Chronicle in 2016 when he received a call from a social employee
resulted in all 4 of Shanon’s children living with him and Nellie on the time.

“I got a call from a social worker and my response was, ‘Send them to me.’ That must have been in July or August of 1999. We finally got them in March of 2000,” he revealed. “The oldest was 10, her brother was 8, Simone was 3 and Adria, the youngest, was 13 months old.”

After Shanon and Simone’s father lost parental rights on account of substance abuse, the 2 oldest children were sent to live with Ronald’s sister in Ohio.

Simone said that whether it was because of their young age or momentary convenience, she never hesitated to call her grandparents “Mom” and “Dad.”

Regarding Nellie, Ronald’s wife, Simone said, “She’s the best mom. We can all say that, but mine is the best. She’s so sweet and carefree. She and my dad are my biggest supporters.”

Ronald and Nellie made it clear in the interview that they supported the concept of Simone and Adria having a relationship with their biological mother. Simone herself even said that her mother would contact her “around the holidays and stuff.” She would even call and say things like, “‘Happy birthday, Simone,’ and ‘happy Valentine’s Day, Simone.’ Just short stuff.”

But now, eight years later, Shanon says she’s able to construct a stronger bond along with her daughter.

“I want to let her know I love her,” Shanon told The Daily Mail this month, “and I’m so proud of her. But I’m still waiting.” Despite having Simone’s “direct number,” Shanon admits she “won’t use it” because she doesn’t wish to force it. She said: “I want her to reach out to me. She’s 27 now. She’s married. I’d love to be a part of it, but I just have to wait for her. You can’t push anyone.”

Simone has not yet responded to Shanon’s request.
