Being a parent is one of the toughest jobs on this planet. So why do some women determine to do it alone? An increasingly popular trend amongst some women is to decide on motherhood alone, taking up all of the responsibilities, each mental, emotional and financial.
In the third episode of “Choosing Motherhood with Eboni K. Williams,” Williams and Ellis discuss the financial costs of freezing their eggs. Ellis documented her journey within the award-winning Washington Post documentary series, “Should I freeze my eggs?” The episode focuses on Ellis’ decision and the way her father’s surprising declaration helped her make two essential life decisions.
According to Fertility IQ, The average cost of an egg freezing cycle is $11,000which incorporates hormonal stimulation, egg retrieval, and lab processing. There are additional costs, about $5,000 for the medications, plus fees for storing the eggs. The cost of in vitro fertilization (IVF) is even higher, about $24,000.
