Simone Biles Tunes Out Birth Family Drama to Pay Tribute to Her ‘Sweet’ Parents in Unwavering Reaction
In addition to her historic victories on the 2024 Paris Olympics, Simone Biles has had so much happening in her personal life this month. However, the big day she celebrated on Saturday, August 24, wasn’t about her. It was more about her parents.
Simone Biles posted an lovable video over the weekend of her adoptive parents, Ronald and Nellie — who’re her real grandfather and his wife of nearly five many years — slow dancing together at Ronald’s seventy fifth celebration. In the clip, which features the 2 lovingly embracing on the dance floor, Biles captioned it, “47 years strong, my parents are so sweet.”
The joyful event takes place 16 days after Ronald’s real birthday which they celebrated in Paris while Simone competed in the Olympics. Ronald welcomed the half-term of his seventieth birthday with a sweet surprise, which Simone captured on Instagram, showing him holding a chocolate cake in the apartment while watching the track and field competition.
But the celebrations were soon bombarded with drama on Aug. 13 when Ronald’s daughter, who can also be Biles’ biological mother, Shanon Biles, expressed her desire to pursue a relationship with the 11-time Olympic medalist. Shanon, a recovering drug addict who lost custody of her eight children, including Simone, told the Daily Mail that she was deciding to be “patient” and wait until her gymnast daughter was “ready” to “come” to her and make amends.
Shanon says she keeps in touch along with her father, and he gives her updates on Simone and her younger sister, Adria, whom he also adopted. But the connection between Ronald and Shanon wasn’t all the time like this. The mother of eight says she felt that after her father adopted two of her daughters, he “flipped (her) switch” when it got here to keeping in touch.
She said that originally, “there was no communication, no calls, no visits,” and her father would not let her see Simone or Adria for an additional six years. Shanon says she has a direct phone number to talk to Simone, but wants to wait until her second-oldest daughter comes to her first.
“I want her to reach out to me,” she says. “She’s 27 now. She’s married. I’d like to be a part of it, but I have to wait for her. You can’t push anyone.” Shanon says she even talks to Simone’s younger sister, Adria, greater than she does to Simone. Shanon’s two oldest children, Ashley and Tevin, whom she also lost custody of during her drug addiction battle, also moved in with a member of the family. They moved to Cleveland with an aunt, and every had their very own legal problems.
Shanon’s other daughter, Micah, who has a special father than Simone and is certainly one of Shanon’s last 4 children, rushed to her mom’s defense following the backlash she received after the interview. Viewers criticized Shanon for expecting Simone to reach out to her after her mishaps. Still, Micah reminded followers on her TikTok that “life happens to everyone” and that Simone was “taken care of.”
Micah claimed that “Simone chose not to have a relationship with my mom, which is fine. It was her choice.” But the 23-year-old’s major message was that she didn’t want anyone to “criticize” her mom because, in her words, she “tried.”
Simone has yet to respond to her biological mother, but she has never shied away from showing support to her grandparents, whom she calls Mom and Dad, for giving her and her sister a brand new life.
Fans have taken to social media to express their opinions on Simone’s recent dedication to her father.
“How can you worship this man, he is the reason your relationship with your real mom (NOT Nelly!) is ruined. I pray that God intervenes ASAP. SAD,” said one User X wrote.
A more supportive fan he wrote“@Simone_Biles I just read an article about your upbringing… you might be amazing parents They are amazing and you might be much more amazing! Congratulations in your success. You have made hundreds of thousands of Britons very proud! A national hero.”
On the series “Simone vs. Herself,” she said, “Being separated from my biological mother, being put in foster care before I was officially adopted by my grandparents, just prepared me for a better path in life.” She added, “I feel like I wouldn’t be where I am today if that turning point hadn’t happened. I would still be Simone Biles, probably not the Simone Biles that everyone else knows, the whole world knows.”
