Serena Williams fires back as frustrated fans accuse athlete of ‘playing’ with face

There is not any way that critics can dampen Serena Williams’ confidence, as her looks proceed to be a hot topic amongst fans.

But that doesn’t mean the critical comments about her appearance have gone unnoticed. She proved that when she joined the viral TikTok trend of “modest.” In a post uploaded on August 22, she hinted that when she looks within the mirror, she looks like the one thing people should see when they give the impression of being at her is victory.

“See how I win in makeup? It’s not too much. It’s just enough. It’s not overwhelming. It’s very attentive. It’s very understated. It’s very elegant. It’s… how do you say it? It’s rich, that’s the word, rich,” Williams said as the video switched between stills from her recent outings and clips of her speaking on to the camera.

For years, the tennis icon has been praised for being at the highest of her game, but she hasn’t been given nearly as many compliments off the court. Fans and critics are sometimes at an impasse on the subject of giving in and gently holding her hands, figuratively speaking, as they provide her unsolicited advice on find out how to improve her makeup and supposed cosmetic surgery.

The reactions to the post were proof that fans still hold a grudge against her.

“That goes to Sammy Sosa,” a fan replied on TikTok.

“Yes, you look very rich! When many people become rich, they start playing with their face and start developing this rich look that ruined my face,” reads one other comment.

A 3rd follower said: “I think we just have to accept that it’s her new look and there’s nothing we can do about it.”

Williams launched her own cosmetics line, Wyn Beauty, this spring. The vegan and cruelty-free brand has ten products for face, lips and eyes and boasts a color range of 91 shades.

The ultra-affordable range of face cosmetics, concealers, lipsticks, eyeliners and mascaras has develop into a staple of retired athletes’ stunning looks on the red carpet, on the ESPY Awards and beyond in recent months.

However, one of the numerous persistent criticisms she faces is that her makeup is simply too light, often making her look pale and pale depending on the lighting. The comments have been hyper-focused on her skin tone. Claims that she has experimented with skin whitening have been common throughout her profession, and even now, in her retirement.

“It’s very ‘I want to be a white woman,’” the critic said. Williams’ blonde hair also got here under fire, with some comparing her style to an try and achieve a more European standard of beauty. Another wrote: “It’s like ‘Get Out!’ since you took out those beads, it’s not good.”

But her true fans didn’t sit idly by as the Wimbledon legend’s debate continued. In her defense, one person wrote: “Y’all are tripping. Her makeup looks so much better than before.” A second user said: “The way the world is tormenting Serena and her sister, they STILL win like RICH said.”

Williams has been on a roll with subtle digs at critics who’ve persistently criticized her appearance. In an Aug. 21 Instagram post, she captioned a photograph of herself, “100% real… from head to toe… lol,” seemingly shutting down accusations that she went under the knife to vary her appearance.

Fans say the TikTok post sends a transparent message: “If you don’t come to me until I call you are a person. Girl!!! Wynning!”
