Jermaine Dupri Says Kamala Harris’ Hands Were ‘Tied’ as VP
Jermaine Dupri opened up about how Kamala Harris allegedly told him her ‘hands were tied’ as vice chairman.
The rapper/producer and Atlanta native shared the video testimony in response to the 2024 Democratic National Convention, where the Georgia delegation joined other states to officially nominate Harris as the party’s presidential candidate. According to Dupri, the DNC is doing “amazingly” but believes Harris has a “pretty tough job” as the country’s vice chairman while also running for president.
In the movie caught In The Art of Dialogue, Dupri recalls his second meeting with Vice President Harris, during which he asked her an issue about implementing policy changes as president that she apparently didn’t receive a solution to during her time as vice chairman.
“What makes you believe she will do all this if she becomes president, since she is already in the chamber?” Dupri asked, noting how “tricky” the query is.
“I asked her, as vice president, why they wouldn’t let her speak when, as you know, Biden gives the impression that he needs or has needed someone to speak to him,” he continued.
The hip-hop artist claims Harris told him that as vice chairman, her “hands are tied” and she will’t do greater than she was allowed to do.
“She basically made it clear to me that her hands were tied and that she was not allowed to speak out on the matter,” Dupri explained.
But now, as the official Democratic nominee for President of the United States, Dupri believes Vice President Harris has a responsibility to reply that query and persuade any skeptics about her role within the office to consider in her.
“Today I don’t know if she’s gone. You know, I want to see how she, if she even addresses this issue, because if she doesn’t address this issue, that’s the question that I think people who are, who have mixed decisions about voting for her, that’s one of the questions,” he said.
Dupri called it certainly one of the largest criticisms the GOP has made from Harris and said it was time for her to present an honest answer. If Vice President Harris is blaming Democrats for her actions or lack thereof while within the White House, Dupri said it reflects poorly on your entire party.
“And if she says something about her hands being tied, it sounds like the White House or the Democratic Party don’t really want her to overstep her authority,” he concluded.
Many viewers of the video expressed frustration with Dupri’s lack of information about how government works and blaming Vice President Harris for things beyond her control.
“I can’t finish this video, no offense, but we have to be realistic and understand that the government is slow for a reason,” one person wrote. “You can’t take office and just start signing crazy executive orders that will never take effect once someone else takes your place.”
“It’s so exhausting. There are so many Americans who don’t understand how government works,” one other added. “Her hands are tied. She’s not the president. She’s the vice president, who really has no role in decision-making other than to sort out the ties in the Senate.”
Vice President Harris has faced increasing criticism for not chatting with reporters for interviews since becoming the Democratic nominee. Her team said she is going to hold a news conference soon. Harris has also agreed to confront her opponent, Donald Trump, in scheduled debate for September.
