Meghan Markle Says 3-Year-Old Princess Lilibet ‘Found Her Voice’

It’s easy to consider that Meghan Markle, who boldly and successfully stepped down from her royal duties within the UK alongside her husband, Prince Harry, draws inspiration from strong women.

As a part of the Duchess of Sussex’s tour of Colombia along with her husband, she spent the weekend celebrating Afro-Colombian women and raising awareness of their challenges. While there, Meghan noticed one little “woman” particularly who inspires her nowadays.

During a panel discussion on the Afro Women and Power conference in Cali, Colombia, on August 18, Meghan spoke about how she copes along with her role as a public figure and role model, especially as a mother to 2 children: 5-year-old son Archie and 3-year-old daughter Lilibet.

“A lot of my approach to things is less about fighting – that doesn’t interest me – and more about how we show up in a space and how we embrace it with love and kindness and generosity,” she said, in keeping with People Magazine.

She added: “Part of the role modeling that I certainly try to do as a mother is to encourage our daughter — who found her voice at age 3. And we’re proud of that because that’s how, like I said, we create the conditions where there’s a domino effect for young girls and young women who know that if someone else encourages them to use their voice and be heard, that’s what they’re going to do. And it’s going to create a different environment than what so many of us grew up in.”

Meghan noted that from a young age she felt like her voice “was heard.”

“I think that’s a luxury that a lot of young girls and women often don’t have,” she continued. “For us and the work that we do with the Archewell Foundation, certainly the work that we do as parents and that I do as a mother, is about making sure that young girls feel like their voices are heard, and that young boys are raised to listen and hear those young women as well. As my husband is such a great example of, the role of men in that… is crucial.”

The duchess attended the panel alongside Colombian Vice President Francia Marquez, who invited the royal couple to the country. Opening as much as the group, Meghan noted how excited she was to be in Colombia.

“Because we’re in your country, my husband and I feel this embrace from Colombia — it’s amazing,” she reportedly said, in keeping with People. “The culture, the history — it was all a dream — this trip was a dream. I feel this community, and that feeling is the best thing right now.”

Since landing in Colombia, the Duke and Duchess have participated in numerous humanitarian events, in addition to finding time for a little bit of romance and fun. video As posted on social media, the couple showed off their dancing skills and shared a kiss while taking salsa lessons as a part of a visit to Jóvenes en Cali, a youth organization in town.
