‘She’s bat-shit crazy’: Angel Reese fans outraged after security had to catch them Stranger had permission to chase Reese months after death threats complaints
Angel Reese made her WNBA All-Star Game debut on July 20. But her moment was overshadowed by a bizarre encounter with an overzealous fan who was kidnapped by security for sneaking onto the court to meet the Chicago Sky star.
Now fans online are demanding the league provide higher security.
The 2024 WNBA All-Star Game took place on the Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona. In the video that has since gone viral, Reese was seen trying to walk through the tunnel when she was confronted by a girl who appeared to be shouting something at her. Reese appeared concerned, taking a step back as two security guards stepped in to forcibly remove the fan.
One fan who was on the match shared his memories of the strange encounter.
“We all rightly speculated about how well security was protecting the players, especially compared to others. Especially BG and Angel Reese. Yesterday I saw with my own eyes a woman who got a little too excited and close to Angel, and security picked her up and escorted her out,” they said. he wrote on X
Another fan who was present as well as“I watched that too, my jaw dropped how quickly they dragged her out, and she kept screaming that she loved Angel as she left.”
On July 20, the fan involved within the strange interaction, who goes by the pseudonym Ivy or “Crazy K,” shared her reason for fleeing into the tunnel, claiming she spent $1,200 of her children’s college fund for a likelihood to meet the star in person.
“I paid 1200 for a place to think. @angelreese5 wasn’t going to see my face, f**k,” she wrote on Instagram. “@angelreese5 all my followers please tag @angelreese5 I’m spending money on my kids school so they can do this to me. I’m f**king on the side of the STAR @angelreese5 #wnbaallstar @wnba cap I snuck in to nana boo-boo you s0000z you better catch that 🪶 #anglereese.”
“Ivy, why were you kidnapped by security?” a commenter wrote under Ivy’s post.
Ivy’s confession sparked a combination of sympathy and criticism online, with many criticizing her costly decision.
“God is trying to tell you that you made the wrong choice. Priorities. You shouldn’t have spent those kids’ school clothes on a game you can watch on TV,” one other commenter wrote.
“Madam, did you spend your kids’ school money on a ticket to the All-Star game?” a fan asked. he wrote on X
“She’s lying, seeking sympathy and a refund from Angela” another person suggested.
“She paid for the venue, she didn’t pay for the meet and greet. Sorry, you got scammed.” – Social media user he identified.
Others have raised concerns in regards to the way security services have handled the situation, suggesting that far more must have been done.
“Harassing someone and acting like an idiot in public is not living life to its fullest,” wrote an Instagram user. “Security should have tasered her and thrown her to the ground.”
“I really wish they would give her better security, she needs a personal bodyguard at the moment because people are just crazy,” one fan said he tweeted.
“Ohhhhh no we won’t do that, let’s increase Angel’s security, these people have lost their minds,” wrote one other User X.
The third user X simply he wrote“She is completely crazy,” added a concerned fan who he tweeted“The fact that she managed to get that close to the player is WEIRD. Time to definitely step up security.”
The fan also posted a series of photos and videos on Instagram of herself walking through the sector lobby, standing next to section 121 within the seating bowl, standing within the front row of seats, and holding a drink over money slips on the Desert Diamond Casino. She also tried to capitalize on her viral moment with Reese by promoting her recent T-shirt line.
“I scared you (poop emoji) because of that girl,” one commenter wrote under the post with a photograph of the T-shirt.
While Ivy didn’t pose a direct threat, concerns about Reese’s safety have recently been raised. In April, she fought back tears while telling the press how she’s staying strong after being subjected to death threats and other attacks since LSU won the national championship last 12 months.
“I’m just trying to be strong,” she said on the rostrum. “I’ve been attacked so many times — death threats, sexualized, threatened. I’ve been… so many things, and I’ve been strong every time.”
She added: “I’m still human. Since I won the national championship, I haven’t been happy.”
Earlier this month, Angel Reese’s mother revealed a few of the hate mail she received from alleged Caitlin Clark fans. One message addressed to the Angel Reese Foundation read: “Black b*tch, you disgust me with your stupid jealous antics, let your daughter shine and (stop) teaching her jealousy to get attention! Stop being a black gutter b*tch, you make black women look bad and stop talking about cc, she got that swag, she’s a game changer, be happy your daughter got a chance to play W!! Because if it wasn’t for cc, no one would know you have a low GPA for having a daughter.”
Despite her heated All-Star moment, Reese shared a more positive moment with one other fan. The WNBA rookie also went viral when she gifted a young fan together with her game-worn sneakers, together with a touching message.
“Angel, I’ll trade all these shoes for yours,” read the message on the sign with Reese’s Pieces candies hanging from it.
Chicago Sky’s followers were dubbed “Reese’s Pieces,” and in June, she publicly acknowledged her fan base by name.
“Where are you, Reese’s Pieces?????” she asked. he wrote on X June 25.
On the court, Reese finished the All-Star Game with 12 points and 11 rebounds, helping the WNBA team defeat Team USA.
She became the primary rookie to record a double-double within the league’s annual All-Star Game. Arike Ogunbowale scored a record 34 points and was named the All-Star Game MVP.
Reese and Ogunbowale led the WNBA team to a 117-109 victory over Team USA in Phoenix.
