Tennessee dental office workers fired after viral video shows them brazenly mocking cancer patient in office, sparking outrage
A Knoxville, Tennessee, dental office has confirmed it has fired employees who could be seen on video reading aloud a patient’s private diary.
Premier Dental Group has come under fire from the general public after the footage went viral on social media and sparked outrage across the country.
The video is a Snapchat story of a dental group worker reading a journal full of snippets a few patient’s thoughts and concerns about their treatment plan, while two other staff members sit and listen. Viewers can hear the staff members chuckling and giggling occasionally in the course of the reading.
After the video was posted online, it quickly went viral and sparked nationwide outrage, with many viewers demanding that the dental company fire the workers and investigate the video.
“This is absolutely disgusting,” wrote one X user. he said“They should all be fired.!!” “Trash from the earth reading a diary and making fun of a cancer patient,” said one other user X.
“This is completely childish, unnecessary, unfunny, even cruel and lacking in empathy,” wrote a Reddit user he commented.
Premier Dental Group posted an announcement on its Facebook page on Monday confirming that the footage did indeed feature company employees and was recorded at its practice.
“Premier Dental Group of Knoxville is aware of a recent incident involving an inappropriate video created and shared by some of our employees that referenced an individual’s health in a rude and unprofessional manner. We deeply regret this incident and the pain it has caused,” the statement read.
The supplier also said that “the employees have been reviewed” and that the group will review “internal training policies and procedures.” The statement was published shortly before the supplier deleted its Facebook profile. profile and made him inaccessible.
Later, the dental group published second statement on its Google Business Page, confirming that the workers involved in the incident have been fired. The supplier’s initial statement can be posted there.
This isn’t the primary time the practice has been embroiled in scandal and controversy. Last 12 months, the provider was ordered to pay $1 million in settlements after a lawsuit alleged the practice committed fraud and submitted false claims to Tennessee’s Medicaid program, TennCare.
According to WBIR 10 News, the lawsuit accuses the provider of using unqualified dental hygienists, charging excessive fees for procedures that weren’t needed or performed, and treating patients like “cattle” in order to maximise profits.
