Colin Kaepernick to play flag football in 2028 Olympics

With no clear likelihood of returning to the NFL and resuming his profession, quarterback Colin Kaepernick has set his sights on the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

The next Olympics will introduce flag football as a brand new sport in 4 years, and Colin Kaepernick wants to play for Team USA. While talking concerning the success of the USA basketball team in , he was asked if he would play for the flag football team in the 2028 Olympics.

“I hope we’ll be there. We’ll work on a few things and see if we can get there. But we’d like to be there.”

Even though the previous San Francisco 49ers star hasn’t stepped on a football field for the reason that 2016 season, he still dreams of returning to the NFL.

“We’re still training, we’re still pushing,” he said. “So let’s hope so. We just have to get one of these team owners to open up.”

Eight years later, he’s trying to drum up interest from teams. The 36-year-old quarterback’s skills, especially since he hasn’t played any skilled football in recent years, have likely deteriorated, but he’s still confident he may help a team win a Super Bowl.

“It’s something I’ve trained for my whole life. So to be able to get back on the field, I think it would be a great moment; a great accomplishment for me. I also think it’s something I can contribute to the team and help them win a championship.”

In October 2023, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, owner of the Extreme Football League (XFL), said he had spoken to Kaepernick and his agent about joining the league so he could showcase his skills in the NFL. However, The Rock stated on social media that he didn’t think Kaepernick would join the league. The quarterback didn’t join, but he still longs to return to the NFL.
