Shaunie Henderson Responds to Furious Critics, Calling Husband Pastor Keion a ‘Fraudster’ for Demanding Millions in Donations from Church Members

Shaunie Henderson is trying to spread “some positivity” following the negative backlash her husband received online.

Earlier this month, Shaunie’s husband, Pastor Keion Henderson, was accused of being a web-based “fraudster” after asking his congregation and donors to pay $4.4 million over the following three weeks. The money will likely be used not only to double the scale of The Lighthouse Church, but additionally to repair any remaining damage the church experienced after Hurricane Beryl.

Unfortunately, the request didn’t go down well with viewers, who felt the pastor’s request was insensitive to his church members and followers who can have been going through their very own financial struggles, while others ended with name-calling, accusing Keion of being a “fraudster.” But not under Shaunie.

The “Basketball Wives” mogul took to Instagram on Tuesday, August 13 to post a respectful response to those that left negative comments about her husband.

She posted a video of herself gracefully walking in a cream suit and heels, with a screenshot of her Threads post that reads, “You are not responsible for someone else’s distorted perception of you. Stand strong in your truth and light.”

The music video is accompanied by a song by Christian hip-hop artist Miles Minnick titled “God Ain’t Done.”

In the caption under the photo, Shaunie continued her strategic response, encouraging her followers to join in the positive act. She wrote, “Happy Tuesday. What are you doing to stay true to yourself and block out the negativity? Let’s share some positivity and self-love in the comments!”

In the comments section, which Shaunie made sure to limit, one person wrote, “When you KNOW who you are and who God has called you to be, nothing and no one else matters! All you need is confirmation from God!!”

Another said, “I know who I am and what I am, so I know I can’t fail! Even when I make mistakes, everything works out for my good.”

One day after Shauni’s post, Keion posted his own video on IG with clips from his congregation. In the video, he repeats the identical statements he made in his original video, revealing that his church has had to turn away about 600 people a week.

“And the Lord spoke to me about three months ago, he said, “and told me to add seating to this sanctuary. I had no idea that God had a different plan.” In that post, Keion added a link to the Out of the Harbor Fund so donors could donate money.

In his original video, released earlier this month, Keion told his followers and viewers around the globe that they have already got plans to “do it” in October and said he wants to expand the church “so that no one who has the opportunity to come in is turned away because we don’t have the space. We can’t wait for the insurance company to do it.” Keion asked that 2,100 of his followers donate $2,100 in the following 21 days to reach their $4.4 million goal.

The query left some wondering why he and Shaunie won’t just team up to donate their very own funds. Someone wrote, “They’ll have to use their own funds lol then when the insurance gets refunded it’ll be crazy.”

Another encouraged Keion to be more patient, writing, “Wait on the Lord. Why is he impatient with the insurance company?”

Referring to their 2022 wedding special that aired on TV, one person in the She.Gossipz comments section wrote, “Him and Shaunie better get this off vh1.”

Another said: “This man is a fraud, this church as a 501c 3 must and definitely is insured! He is a thief, robbing people!”

A 3rd added: “Man, you sound like an idiot.”

Hurricane Beryl damaged all 4 of the church’s campuses, however the north campus was out of commission, forcing it to close indefinitely. As a result, Henderson and his followers had no place to hold Sunday revivals. That is, until Pastor Joel Osteen agreed to have him hold services at Lakewood Church.

In an Aug. 8 video, he said his “church is still open” and that Osteen’s Lakewood Church would hold revival services every Sunday in August.
