The AKA sisterhood is doing great under the leadership of their sister, VP Kamala Harris.

She is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Inc., which has formed a political motion committee to bolster fundraising efforts for Vice President Harris’ presidential campaign. Harris recently spoke to attendees on the AKAs annual convention, Boulé, in Dallas in July.

“You are an incredible part of my journey and I love you guys,” she said on the event. “Family is my beloved Alpha Kappa Alpha, our Divine Nine and my HBCU brothers and sisters,” Harris said on the time.

This is not the primary time the association has announced a significant fundraising effort for Harris. It has previously raised hundreds of dollars and “We went to the elections” for Harris’ 2020 campaign efforts. Vice President Kamala Harris took the oath of office and “graduated” as an AKA to Howard University’s Alpha chapter in 1986.

As ESSENCE previously reported, in 2023 the organization launched its own credit union, becoming the primary Greek-lettered organization to accomplish that.

The Members Only (FMO) credit union is the primary Black-owned, women-led, student-run, digital banking financial institution within the United States ABC7 Chicago report, location of the association’s headquarters.

“Not everyone realizes the financial impact we have, so we need to step up and let people know we can control our money,” Danette Anthony Reed, international president and CEO of AKA Sorority, told ABC7 Chicago.

The registered, regulated and insured credit union will offer savings accounts, loans and other financial services to AKA members and their families, in addition to AKA and credit union employees, sources said.
