Planned Parenthood Viral Clip Claims Company Allegedly Sells Fetal Tissue
A recently released recording shows Planned Parenthood executives allegedly discussing handling body parts of fetuses aborted within the late second trimester of pregnancy, particularly fetal tissue, which has raised concerns on social media.
In a 2015 recording by anti-abortion activist David Daleiden, Planned Parenthood executives might be heard allegedly describing measures to avoid “prosecution under the federal ban on partial-birth abortions by dismembering the fetus while it is partially outside the uterus.”
While accusations persist that Planned Parenthood’s primary goal was to preserve organs for the aim of harvesting them, the nonprofit organization maintains that it “does not profit commercially from fetal tissue.” Moreover, on the time of the initial tapes, Planned Parenthood claimed that its employees had discussed legal, nonprofit donations of fetal tissue to research firms.
Previous study conducted by the Oversight and Accountability Committee, Democrats also debunked the allegations. While the claim is that Planned Parenthood engages within the “illegal sale of aborted baby parts” and that the organization “sells baby parts,” the location maintains that the posted video accommodates no “credible evidence” that the organization “profits from its fetal tissue donation program.”
“Despite Daleiden’s three-year effort to catch Planned Parenthood, he ‘has failed to convince even a single affiliate to enter into a procurement contract with his sham company,’” reads a letter from Planned Parenthood Federation of America President Cecile Richards to House Speaker John A. Boehner, Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Minority Leader Harry Reid dated Aug. 27, 2015.
Moreover, the study, presented by the Democratic Oversight and Accountability Committee, also alleges that only a small variety of Planned Parenthood facilities actively engage in fetal tissue research and that 99% of Planned Parenthood health centers don’t offer tissue donation options.
“Few women are able to donate fetal tissue to Planned Parenthood affiliates because ‘the researchers did not approach the local affiliate for tissue, or the local affiliate did not want to participate,’” the web site states.
Since its founding in 1916 in New York City by Margaret Sanger, Planned Parenthood has turn out to be the most important reproductive health care provider within the United States, providing people in need with all the things from contraceptives and contraception to pregnancy and abortion counseling.
