Ravyn Lenae has an unmistakable falsetto that melodically blends together with her vibrato. Her new album is a documentation of Lenae’s different phases of life. As we all know with any artist, the work often pertains to the depths of their lives. Her work has been about her childhood and her development into the girl she is today. From a bird’s eye view, we get to see her as she is in all of her iterations.
While her musical inspiration lies within the melodies of Janet Jackson, Fleetwood Mac and No Doubt, her beauty inspiration comes from Doja Cat’s latest makeup looks. “I think it’s so good because it strikes that balance between dewy skin and a sharp eye. I love that,” she gushed. In the wellness space, the singer is especially keen on Thorndeals. The budding R&B singer recently partnered with the science-backed performance and nutrition complement brand in 2023. To stay healthy, as she continually puts on makeup, travels, sings, etc., her favorite products to assist her get back in shape are Zinc Bisglycinatefor healthy skin and eyes, Magnesium Bisglycinate to chill out the muscles and Sleep+ for deep, restful sleep.
“I’m implementing some of Thorne’s products. I really like them Commemorative supplement. I feel like it helps me focus on my sessions, it makes my thought process a little more focused because sometimes there’s a million things going on in my head and it’s hard to fully engage in a session or a song when there’s a lot of other things going on,” she explained. “So I also love magnesium. I mix it with water before I go to bed, but especially during the release, I generally get really restless and my sleep is really bad. I find it hard to relax, unwind and stay asleep, so that helped me.”
The singer also introduced several cosmetics that she uses in her each day care, resembling: Cerave Moisturizing Face Wash Gelthis Embryolisse Moisturizer AND Black Girl SunscreenShe likes to maintain things easy and effective with regards to skincare, while her hair has undergone a change that has brought her back to herself.
“This project was interesting to me because I think naturally when you have a new project, we like to think of it as a new era or that every time you’re better than everyone else and you’re getting bigger and bigger in how you express yourself through clothes, through hair, through makeup,” she shared. “For me, it was the complete opposite. It was almost like going back to the basics of who I am and who I am. So on the cover, you just see a white T-shirt and a very classic, timeless approach to thinking about clothes and how I want to represent myself now. And then the big hair — my hair is still red, but I dyed it red, so it’s a different shade of red that I hadn’t done before. You feel so confident in who you are, in your identity, that you’re able to move through different shades of life, and that can be represented through hair or makeup,” she added. The best new starting all the time appears to be coming back to myself. “On the duvet, I’m dying my hair red in my grandmother’s basement. The first time I dyed my hair red was in her basement.
She selected red as an indication of her identity at a young and searching age. She was drawn to its boldness, its hue, its striking power and the eagerness it embodied. Her alternative of red or ginger is a mirrored image of her profession progression. At just 20 years old, the “Love Is Blind” singer displays a wealth of discernment and wisdom. “The longer you’re in an industry that you’re passionate about, the easier it is to fall into these spells of not listening to your own voice and accepting too many opinions as fact. It’s easy to lose your own sense of direction and self when you’re striving for something or being ambitious. With this album, I’ve returned to that state where that inner 12-year-old Raven is back. I don’t really care what people think, I really go with my impulses and intuition in the music and what feels right for me.”
