‘How Do I Like You Now?’: Sha’Carri Richardson’s ‘Wild’ Look Before Going ‘Turbo Mode’ at Competition Drives Fans Wild
Sha’Carri Richardson leaves Paris with two medals after making her 2024 Olympic debut.
The former LSU track and field star won a silver medal after ending second within the 100-meter final on Aug. 3. Days later, on Aug. 9, she helped Team USA, consisting of Melissa Jefferson, Gabby Thomas and Twanisha Terry, win the gold medal within the 4 × 100-meter relay.
Video of her regaining the No. 1 position on the team within the qualifying round was widely shared amongst sports fans. Richardson was the anchor in each the qualifying and final races. The viral pre-final footage shows her catching up with German Rebecca Haase before shifting into high gear as she raced across the finish line.
The 24-year-old sprinter is the butt of web jokes not just for her speed, but in addition for the best way she shot Haase a fast glance before leaving her behind.
“She looked like you didn’t think you were faster than me,” the TikTok user wrote when the video was shared on the favored social media platform. Other hilarious assumptions her thoughts at that moment included: “Girl, did you think!”, “Girl, are you coming?”, and “Girl, if you don’t get in.”
Another fan said: “My girlfriend is a GAME!!!” Someone else also commented on Richardon’s “turbo sports mode” he said“Just a look tells a story.”
Richard first qualified for the 2021 Olympics in Tokyo. However, her dreams were placed on hold when drug tests showed she had THC in her system when she qualified for the 100 meters. She was suspended for a month and missed the Olympics.
Her Paris performance was not without its mishaps, nevertheless. Before running 10.87 seconds within the 100-meter final, she and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce of Jamaica were barred from entering the Stade de France due to a late-night rule change that required them to travel to the venue by team bus.
The mistake ruined the ladies’s probabilities of warming up properly before the competition and ultimately led to Fraser-Pryce’s decision to withdraw from the event. “Paris furious that she didn’t let Sha’Carri and Shelly through the gate,” was the critique of the fiasco. Neither Richardson nor her rival have made public comments on the rule change.
