The updo marked a latest chapter in the lifetime of rapper Cardi B, who announced each her pregnancy and divorce same week. “Every ending means a new beginning,” she wrote on Instagram, cradling her third baby bump with a set of sharp red heels. The 31-yr-old swapped her parted wig for an additional-long pin-up, keeping the burden of her hair on top.

Cardi has been spotted in a similar updo before, when rumors of her pregnancy first began to swirl. In July, she showed up on the Marc Jacobs Fall 2024 show in a billowy, custom-made gown (presumably to cover her latest baby bump), together with her dark hair cut into sideburns and bangs. Every week later, she was spotted in Paris, hiding her baby bump under a large Chanel bag and her usual thigh-length wig. Now, she’s back to her mommy-style pinup for the official announcement of her third child.

With any major transition—marriage, divorce, pregnancy—an updo can take a lot of the burden off your shoulders. But Cardi left a section of her hair to untangle from the highest as she tilted her head toward her exposed baby bump. “It’s so much easier to take life’s twists, turns, and trials lying down,” she wrote, which translated to the tangled strands in her hair. “But you, your brother, and your sister have shown me why it’s worth it to keep going.”

Although she just isn’t a novice in updos (see: her tulle headpiece on the 2024 Met Gala) returned to the mom-approved style at just the suitable time. We’ve seen stars like Teyana Taylor, Kelly Rowland and Zendaya lean into short hair with a trendy bob. But Cardi B reaches for an updo to interrupt up her knee-length moments — and he or she all the time succeeds.
