Responding to Ozempic’s accusations, Lil Rel Howery opens up about his drastic weight loss
Lil Rel Howery is feeling good and he’s not letting the haters steal his joy. The “Get Out” star recently turned heads for his noticeable weight loss while on the red carpet for his upcoming movie, “Harold and the Purple Crayon.”
“This is my own post expressing my appreciation for myself,” Howery wrote. Instagram“I have worked so hard on myself physically, mentally, spiritually, professionally and personally over the last 5 years. I am so proud of myself. This is the best I have ever felt or looked in my entire life.”
While the actor attributes his weight loss to a change in lifestyle (he stopped drinking alcohol and began eating higher), users within the comments wondered if Howery was taking any medications, like Ozempic or Mounjaro, to shed the kilos.
“Why can’t people (tell) the truth about how they lost weight?” one commenter shared, to which Howery replied, “I did it but you guys (would rather) believe that bullshit because doing something well is so unbelievable lol.”
Although celebrities like Tina Knowles, Terry Crews and Yvonne Orji praised the star for her journey, Howery posted the post anyway Instructional video in response to a wave of hateful comments and accusations.
“It’s not my trip,” he said, dismissing the claims. “I honestly don’t even know where to get it from.”

“I posted this to inspire other people,” he added. “(And to remind people) that it’s not a sprint, it’s a marathon, and that’s what it looks and feels like when you really put in the work and put in the time.”
For Howery, religion and his relationship with God were the muse of his weight loss. While “it wasn’t easy,” he emphasized that his spiritual journey fueled his physical one. Recalling a dark moment when his assistant allegedly found him crying, Howery explained how his five-year journey to wellness also improved his mental health and allowed him to find love with his fiancée, Dannella Lane.
“I really work my ass off. I don’t take any supplements, not even when I work out… I don’t do any of that stuff. It was just a spiritual journey. It was a mental journey. It was a love journey,” he said. “I was in a dark place, but I said yes to God… And that’s just the truth.”
No matter what people think about his weight loss, Howery hopes his testimony inspires others.
“Whatever you do, do it for yourself, and if you can, don’t cut corners. Really put yourself into it, it’s just hard work, nothing more, and that’s the honest truth.”
