Lil Rel Shows Off His Weight Loss Transformation: ‘I’m So Proud of Myself’

Comedian Lil Rel, 44, surprised fans by showing off his recent weight reduction, detailing the approach to life changes that contributed to it and brought him great happiness. The comedian took to Instagram to share a photograph of himself looking fit to share the story behind his recent look.

“This is my own self-esteem post,” his caption began. “I have worked hard for the past 5 years on myself physically, mentally, spiritually, professionally, and personally. I am proud of myself. This is the best I have ever felt or looked in my entire life. Honestly.”

For those that have been following the comedian over the past few years, his recent physique may not come as a whole shock. Lil Rel has been honest with fans about his journey and has shared his progress over time.

To get to where he’s now, the comedian needed to make loads of changes to his lifestyle and stick with them, as he writes within the caption of his Instagram post.

“Stopping drinking, changing my diet, exercising almost every day, writing, building a closer relationship with God, therapy, and honest accountability have brought my life to a higher level of pure happiness.”

Lil Rel also warned against taking shortcuts on the road to wellness, sharing a video of himself boxing at home with weights in hand.

“Really put in the work, it’s just hard work, nothing more, and that’s the honest truth for God’s sake,” he added. “Let me be an example of real work.”

At the tip of the signing, he mentioned promoting his recent film, which can hit theaters on August 2.

In 2022, Lil Rel spoke to Andy Cohen about his weight reduction and thanked Beyoncé, of all people, for her support.

“When I started my weight loss journey, Beyoncé, I think, gave me one of my nicest compliments,” he said. “When you go through that journey, people just love to tell you things, and Beyoncé said, ‘Rel, you look great!’ and it was beautiful and it was all I needed to hear.”

We second that – the comedian looks great, and it’s good to know he feels great on the within, too. We wonder if he’s found any extra inspiration as he prepares to tie the knot along with his partner, Dannella Lane. He proposed to Lane, interestingly enough, in Beyoncé concert in September 2023. In January, he said they were already within the planning process.

“We won’t say it yet, and I already have a date set, but she’ll want to do whatever she wants,” he shared with PEOPLE. “[Also what] I want to do this, this is our second time being married and this is our last time. And we want this ceremony to be beautiful, beautiful.”
