Meghan Markle Gets Into the Rosé Wine Game

There’s one other Black-owned wine brand coming soon to your wine shelf, following the announcement of its upcoming lifestyle brand, American Riviera Orchardand gifting jam to a bunch of her A-list girlfriends, including Serena Williams, Tracee Ellis Ross and Oprah Winfrey, Meghan Markle is trying her hand at making wine, specifically rosé.

According to Tatler MagazineMarkle’s brand is about to release a line of rosé wines that us mere mortals (read: us non-royals) will soon find a way to purchase, multiple sources have spoken to each Tatler and Daily mail confirmed that despite the excitement surrounding her brand’s first batch of jam, the wine will probably be the first released by American Riviera Orchard since it is “more profitable.”

According to Tatler sources, “this is a strategic decision by Meghan, who follows in the footsteps of many other celebrities who also have their own wine brands.”

The celebrity wine and spirits business is booming, especially for brands related to black celebrities. One of the most successful celebrity wine brands stays Armand de Brignac Champagne, which was owned by Jay-Z until sold 50 percent of LVMH’s wine and spirits division, Moet Hennessyfor a reported $300 million. Other celebrities who’ve gotten into the wine and spirits game include Issa Rae, Stephen Curry, Meagan Good, Mary J. The decision to launch a rosé wine can also be said to be all the way down to personal reasons, as are a lot of the issues surrounding Markle, including the name of her brand, which references her and Prince Harry’s latest Santa Barbara home.

In addition to being a private favorite of the Duchess, rosé is outwardly what she sipped on her first date with the Duke of Sussex. Tatler further reveals that Markle has also been known to enjoy a calming cup of frosé, the frozen version of the wine’s slushie.

As many suspect, Markle doesn’t plan on stopping at jam and rosé in relation to American Riviera Orchard’s offerings. The Mail reports that buyers can expect the brand to eventually sell bedding, soaps, home décor, perfumes, cookbooks, and cookie mixes. If demand is there, the brand may additionally consider moving into brick-and-mortar stores. Most importantly, despite its royal connections, sources reveal that the brand’s vibe will probably be “approachably chic.” We can toast to that!
