Last night, ESSENCE’s thirtieth Anniversary Festival of Culture headliner Janet Jackson closed the show, bringing this 12 months’s festival to a detailed. Jackson, who holds the title of ESSENCE Fest’s all-time best ticket seller, has the tightest grip on us all; not just for her electrifying performances, but additionally for her aspirational beauty.

The icon is thought for every thing from her wispy lashes on the quilt to her giant updos within the front row at Thom Browne. But during her evening performance on the Superdome as a part of the Evening Concert Series, she reminded us what her signature look is.

For the past month, Damita Jo has been sporting jumbo braids, which brings us back to her era. She first showed them off through the Together Again Tour, replacing her current the trend for knotless braids for a knotted base. Its large, horizontal sections allowed its knots to alternate sides, giving each braid a full range of possibilities for tying up or down. Urban Meet Braid Store she braided and styled her hair for the tour with a colorist Chris Rios Riggiodipping her waist-length dark tresses to create an extended, loose tail.

Defeated by her long-time makeup artist Preston MenesesJackson’s classic matte base and powdered undereyes set the tone for the evening. Her high cheekbones didn’t require any blush or heavy contouring. Instead, her glazed, defined lips were parted by a smile that lifted her cheekbones, giving them a naturally sculpted look. Her luminous eyeshadow cut through the matte moment with a touch of shimmer that caught the Superdome lights.

This 12 months, her nails were nude, in contrast to the pink nails during her 2022 ESSENCE Festival performance, but they were similar in length and shape. While she bucked the knotless braid trend, the favored “no-niche” nail trend was a success for the star. As we bid farewell to the 2024 festival in New Orleans, we will turn to Janet Jackson for timeless beauty inspiration to hold us through to next 12 months.
