With this being the least exciting NBA draft, the big news to come back out of it was that the Los Angeles Lakers were getting a wish from their star player LeBron James, who had been talking about playing with his firstborn child Bronny James for years.

The team used its second-round pick, the fifty fifth pick in the draft, on Bronny James, paving the way for the Lakers to have the first father-son duo to play together in NBA history.

While brothers like Giannis, Thanasis and Kostas Antetokounmpo have all played in the NBA at the same time, as have Lonzo and LaMelo Ball, in addition to second-generation stars like Dell Curry’s sons Seth and Steph, Mychal Thompson’s son Klay and even father-and-son coaching duo Doc and Austin Rivers, that is the first time a father and son could play in the league together, and potentially on the same team if LeBron James signs a contract extension with the Lakers.

This took place in Major League Baseball with the father-son duo of Ken Griffey Sr. and Jr. In the National Hockey League, Gordie Howe and his sons played at the same time.

The man who facilitated the Lakers’ trade, general manager Rob Pelinka, said: “NBA history can be written next season and it should be done in a Lakers uniform.”

Although Bronny had a terrible freshman season at the University of Southern California with a low draft, he declared after averaging 4.8 points, 36% shooting and a pair of.8 rebounds in limited minutes.

“He’s a person of great character and a person who works incredibly hard,” Pelinka said. “He has the quality that we look for in selecting players and contributing to our (program).”

When the season begins, if LeBron remains to be with the Lakers and Bronny joins him on the court, it is going to be one other milestone in LeBron’s incredible profession and in NBA history.
