Netflix has released the official trailer for Simone Biles’ upcoming docuseries Rising. Each episode will chronicle the upcoming athlete’s return to sport, in addition to her struggles with self-doubt and sensitivity.

During the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Biles decided to step away from gymnastics to prioritize her mental health. In doing so, she initiated a much-needed conversation for this country and commenced a new journey towards redemption. Since then, Simone has faced difficult past traumas and learned how to properly manage her complex life and profession.

“We are all the authors of our own journeys, and I am at a point in my life where I feel comfortable with who I am and what I have been through as an athlete, but most importantly as a person,” Biles said in an announcement to Netflix. “I do gymnastics, but it surely’s not who I’m and I’m excited for people to see a unique side of me outside of competition. I do know there are young girls who look to me for inspiration and face similar challenges, and I hope this documentary will help them consider in who they’re and never quit on their dreams. ‘And I keep rising.'”

Directed by Katie Walsh, executive produced by Gotham Chopra, Ameeth Sankaran, Giselle Parets, Janey Miller, JT Taylor and Yiannis Exarchos, and produced by Religion of Sports in association with Olympic Channel.

“Simone is a once-in-a-generation athlete who not only pushed the boundaries of gymnastics, but also redefined the meaning of success by choosing her mental health over medals and titles,” said Walsh. “While her athletic abilities are unmatched, I am proud to share the human element of her story with the extraordinary team at Religion of Sports.”

In this powerful documentary, Biles will display unprecedented courage as she plans to return to the Olympic stage this summer and do what she has all the time done – be one of the best gymnast and woman we might be.

Premiere on July 17, exclusively on Netflix.
