During an exchange with Bill Maher on June 14, Charlamagne Tha God indicated that he would likely vote for President Joe Biden within the upcoming presidential election. The Breakfast Club host has kept away from explicitly endorsing the candidate this cycle, but has previously used phrases much like Biden’s in his speeches.

Maher reportedly told Charlamagne he knew he would not do it sign Biden, to which Charlamagne replied: “I do not support anyone. But that does not imply I do not vote.”

Charlamagne, whose real name is Lenard McKelvey, continued: “But the thing is, Bill, whenever I have these conversations or come on shows, I say the same thing about Donald Trump. I believe that Donald Trump is a threat to democracy. I think he led an attempted coup in this country. He wanted, you know, to dissolve the constitution to overturn the election results. And I say I vote to preserve democracy. So when I say what I just said, does it sound like I voted for Donald Trump?”

When Maher tried to press Charlamagne why he didn’t immediately say he supported President Joe Biden, Charlamagne turned the tables on Maher. “I watched your show just a few weeks ago. I saw, Ken Burke was here. Ken Burke said no…he doesn’t support Trump. Biden. And I do not vote. You didn’t give him any pushback on this? Nothing.” Maher defended himself, saying he refutes such arguments “on a regular basis.”

McKelvey maintains that he doesn’t think either candidate is value supporting, regardless that he supported Biden within the last election. During a speech in May, Charlamagne told hosts that slightly than endorsing a particular candidate, he would slightly emphasize the necessity to preserve democracy. “The reality is I feel each candidates are garbage. If I resolve that each candidates are garbage and I do not feel like supporting either one, would you slightly support a particular person or the very fact that: hey, now we have to exit and protect democracy?
