Quincy Jones on the list of stars who will receive an honorary Oscar

Over the past 55 years, Quincy Jones has been nominated for seven Oscars, including Best Original Score, Best Song, and even Best Picture. Although he has never won a contest statuette at the Academy Awards, this November he will receive an honorary Oscar from the Academy Board in recognition of his contribution to the art of film.

Jones, casting director Juliet Taylor, director Richard Curtis and James Bond producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli will be honored at this yr’s Governors Awards, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced Wednesday.

Jones, who auditioned for movies similar to “In Cold Blood,” “Bewitched” and “The Color Purple,” and Taylor, who auditioned for movies similar to “Taxi Driver,” “Annie Hall,” and “Sleepless in Seattle.” and “Schindler List” will receive Honorary Academy Awards. Most honorary Oscar winners haven’t yet won a competitive Oscar.

Curtis, the creator of the movies “Notting Hill” and “Love Actually”, will receive the humanitarian award. Jean Hersholt for his charity work. He is co-founder of Comic Relief in the UK and USA. Award named after The Irving G. Thalberg Award will be awarded to Wilson and Broccoli from EON Productions, whose roles include 007: “Casino Royale”, “Skyfall” and “No Time To Die”. Broccoli’s father, Albert “Cubby” Broccoli, received the Thalberg Award in 1981.

“The winners of this year’s Governors Awards have set the bar extremely high in their extraordinary careers, and the Academy Board of Governors is delighted to recognize them with Oscars,” Academy President Janet Yang said in a press release. “Their deep love of cinema and indelible contributions to our art make these five truly deserving of these honors.”

The event, which will not be televised, will happen on November 17 at the Ray Dolby Ballroom, near the Dolby Theater, where the Oscars are held.
