Howard University has revoked an honorary doctorate degree awarded to hip-hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs and severed all ties with him following the 2016 release of a video showing him attacking R&B singer and ex-girlfriend Cassie.

The university’s Board of Trustees also directed administrators to sever financial ties, including returning a $1 million gift, ending a related scholarship program and terminating a 2023 pledge agreement with the Sean Combs Foundation.

In a press release, the management board decided“Mr. Combs’ conduct, captured in recently released video, is so fundamentally inconsistent with the core values and beliefs of Howard University that he is deemed unworthy of the institution’s highest honor.”

On Friday, June 7, the board voted unanimously to just accept the return of the honorary degree Combs received in 2014. “This admission strips you of all the honors and privileges associated with this rank. “Consequently, the board has directed that his name be removed from all documents listing individuals who have received an honorary doctorate from Howard University,” the statement read.

Last month CNN posted a video attack in 2016, which took place in a hotel corridor in Los Angeles. In a video statement on Combs’ social media He admitted beating Cassie and expressed deep remorse for his “inexcusable” actions.

“I take full responsibility for my actions in this video,” Combs said. “I used to be disgusted after I did it. I’m disgusted now. I searched for skilled help, went to therapy and rehabilitation. I asked God for His mercy and style. I’m so sorry. But day-after-day I attempt to be a greater person. I’m not asking for forgiveness. I’m really sorry.”

This video is the newest in a series of public allegations and disclosures of physical and sexual violence against Combs. The lawsuit filed last yr by Cassie, whose legal name is Cassandra Ventura, details an incident on the InterContinental Hotel in Los Angeles and alleged years of sexual abuse and other violence by Combs. This lawsuit has already been settled.
