Megan Thee Stallion has gained priceless information during her mental health journey.

The “Hiss” rapper, who has been through quite a bit in recent times – for instance, the death of her mother and grandmother and high-profile assault cases – says Official how therapy helped her. “I don’t think therapy makes me weak, even though I did it for a long time because in the Black community, therapy for me meant madness,” she stated within the publication’s latest cover story.

After her mother died following a battle with brain cancer in 2019, the “Savage” rapper sought treatment. This life-changing experience led her to change into a mental health advocate, producing “Bad Anxiety” merchandise, her own resource website (“Bad B – Have Bad Days Too”) and public health campaigns.

“Even though I’ve been through a lot of bad things, I really got to spend time alone, which I really appreciated,” she said. “I had to be alone to understand: Why is it so hard for you to be alone? Why do you always have to be around so many people at once? Why can’t you just go to your room and spend some time alone?”

Megan told L’Officiel that she ultimately appreciates that the trials forced her to spend time alone.

“I had to step back and look at what I was doing,” she continued, later adding: “When I started feeling good about myself and being alone, I started to appreciate myself again. As I (started) to trust myself, be kinder to myself, and set boundaries, my love for myself continued to grow.”

Megan also expressed regret that her mother – who was also the rapper’s manager – never underwent therapy before her death.

– I wish she would have talked to a therapist or something. I wish she could have talked to someone who would have just eased the burden or no matter how she felt,” Megan said, also opening up about the “toughness” of her mother and late grandmother.

“As an adult, I believed: Oh my God. I saw my mom undergo it, but she never let it get to me,” she continued, adding, “My dad died once I was little, so she really tried to maintain each of us.”
