Did Lil Mama act low despite being the “face of fashion and beauty”?

Lil Mama is opening up about the lack of representation she received in the beauty industry at the height of her profession, despite the fact that she was the “face of fashion and beauty” at the time.

The “Lip Gloss” rapper recently had an in-depth conversation with Brown Girl Grinding’s Loren Lorosa, where she was asked about the lack of support she feels she received at the peak of her music profession in 2008. While Lil Mama dropped a timeless hit where she boasted that mega beauty brands like MAC and L’Oreal were sticking along with her “lip gloss,” the Brooklyn native was capable of gain endorsements from firms at a young age.

But looking back on this moment in her profession and how short-lived these business opportunities were, Lil Mama (real name Niatia Kirkland) recalls the missed opportunity brands had in reaching the Black community.

“I think the opportunities that people like Taylor Swift and Jenner would have been given were an opportunity to create a full line of cosmetics that would reflect who they are,” Lil Mama said in the video caught via The Neighborhood Talk.

Given Lil Mama’s reach in the Black community at the time, she believed it might be smart for a significant brand to get behind her to supply a long-term opportunity that suited her goal demographic.

“How they view fashion, how they view the world of beauty and kind of speak to that audience, whereas I have single-handedly been the face of fashion and beauty for a really large community, which I would say is the African-American community,” she added.

Since then, Lil Mama has grown up and taken her seat at the table, launching her cosmetics and jewelry collection called “It’s Poppin Collection.” In February, “The Voice of the Young People” rapper presented part of the latest “Truly In Love” lip gloss collection.

It was created in collaboration with luxury cosmetics brand Vaniteaset Cosmetics and in collaboration along with her sisters Jasmyn, Jessica and La’Nya Brunner. The lip gloss is out there in 4 unique shades that highlight the natural color of the lips and provide hydration throughout the day.

“It’s been a long time. “Gloss” has contributed to the success of many cosmetic brands around the world. Now it’s my turn, I joined this chat! This is redemption for me” – Lil Mama he said in a press release.

Shades include Truly in Love, Strike a Pose, The Voice and College Girl. The lip glosses retail for $22 and can be found exclusively at VaniteasetCosmetics.com.
