Gary Owen’s ex-wife, Kenya Duke, reveals why the comedian’s children do not want to contact him; It has nothing to do with her, neither the divorce nor his infidelity
According to his ex-wife, Kenya Duke, comedian Gary Owen is not telling the full story as to why he now not has a relationship with his adult children.
The “Think Like a Man” actor recently shared his story wherein he believes his messy divorce contributed greatly to his separation from the former couple’s sons Emilio, 33, Austin, 23, and daughter Kennedy ( 21 years old). Much to her displeasure, Owen shared his side of the story when he appeared on the Club Shay Shay podcast.
Shortly after the interview aired, Duke wrote that while she did not feel obligated to respond to his “untruths,” her display of grace and kindness towards him backfired and created “a space to tell lies and false narratives in order to gain sympathy and attention without correction.” “.
Comments on her Instagram post were critical, with some accusing her of “dragging out” the matter publicly and stopping Owen from seeing their children.
Just a few days later, she responded to the hecklers in a lengthy comment wherein she criticized people for his or her “vile and judgmental approach to a situation” they knew nothing about. “Gary knows exactly why his children haven’t any contact with him. I do not know why he didn’t mention a couple of,” she wrote about her interview.
Gary Owen: “I don’t know when it got this bad.”
Gary Owen a minute later: “…I just said I cheated.”
Gary Owen 30 seconds later: “I don’t know how this bad guy became, but they don’t want anything to do with it.”

The entrepreneur also confirmed the “Get Some” podcast host’s account wherein they talked about the state of his relationship with his children before he recorded the meeting with Shannon Sharpe. She stated that infidelity and divorce were not the reason for the breakdown in the bond, and despite the fact that their marriage led to divorce, she tried to encourage her children to contact their dad.
Duke explained, “I’m not sure why a parent would not mind people talking crazy about their kids after they created the problems, or the mother who tried to help (possibly she didn’t think I did enough). Children haven’t any contact with their parents, something happened that was traumatic for them.
She continued: “No child wakes up and says they do not want to have contact with their parent. “I don’t think these interviews help the relationship, but they help the narrative that the celebrity wants.”
Someone replied to her recently comments she said: “If he likes Brian McKnight and leaves, will someone destroy him for it, but he needs to understand that they’re adults. I just hope he has other kids now and nobody says he treats them higher, especially when he said he’s trying. “
Another user commented: “Tagging him in the post…. This is a testament to the lies you’re NOT telling! Don’t explain yourself to these people.
And a 3rd said: “But he didn’t blame you. That’s why this post is weird and getting a lot attention. He didn’t say anything negative about you and blamed himself for not having a more solid relationship before the divorce.
Owen and Duke divorced in 2021 after 18 years together. He has since moved on and welcomed a set of twins with his fiancée, Brianna Johnson, last 12 months.
